Aveline cared about her dignity, so she stopped struggling and just said coldly, “Let go of me. I’ll walk with you.”

Xavier glanced back at her and smiled. “Walking hand in hand is nice.”

Aveline bit her lip, then let out a sarcastic laugh. “Xavier, since we’re at the hospital, you should go get a psych evalu- ation. I seriously think there’s something wrong with your head.”

Xavier said in a low voice, “My brain really hasn’t been working right lately. I can’t figure out what you’re trying to do.”

Hearing this, Aveline gave a silent, mocking smile.

Xavier was the type to never give up until he hit a dead end. He still thought she was just threatening divorce, not that she was serious about it.

Aveline couldn’t help but let out a few cold laughs. “You’ll find out soon enough.”

Xavier glanced at her, his eyes flickering, but he didn’t say anything.

In the consultation room, Dr. Baldwin saw that Aveline had already disinfected the wound with iodine and said she’d handled it correctly, but she still examined the wound carefully.

“It’s nothing serious. The wound isn’t too bad. Don’t let it get wet for the next few days, apply some iodine to disinfect it, and it’ll heal.”

Aveline had to restrain herself from bad–mouthing Xavier in front of Dr. Baldwin.

Xavier glanced at the mocking expression on Aveline’s lips and asked, “The wound looks red and swollen. It looks pretty bad.”

Dr. Baldwin smiled. “The skin is broken and it bled, so of course it’s going to be red and swollen. But the cut isn’t deep, it’s just on the surface. Put some ointment on it, and it’ll be fine in a few days.”

“Then please prescribe something.”

Aveline said flatly, “Dr. Baldwin, I have iodine at home. I don’t need a prescription.”

Dr. Baldwin nodded. “If you have some at home, then you don’t need one.”

“Thank you, Dr. Baldwin.”

With that, Aveline stood up and left the consultation room.

Xavier followed behind her. “Are you sure the iodine you have at home isn’t expired? That it’s still usable?”

Aveline said coolly, “Xavier, if you have nothing to say, don’t just make things up. It makes you sound stupid.”

Xavier laughed. “I never knew you had such a sharp tongue.”

Aveline stopped and looked back at him coldly. “When I despise someone, my words get this vicious.”

Xavier’s smile vanished, his dark eyes watching her intently.

Aveline used to wonder what thoughts were hidden behind that look in Xavier’s eyes. Now, ha, she had no interest at

all.

She turned and walked away.

Just then, the phone in her purse rang. Aveline took it out and saw it was a call from Miranda.

She quickly answered, “Hello, Miranda?”

Miranda replied, “I just got a call, but no one said anything and they hung up. I thought it was a wrong number at first, but the number looked familiar, so I checked it. It was Mr. Beltran’s cell phone number.”

“Aveline, why would Mr. Beltran call and then hang up without saying anything? It’s giving me a bad feeling.

Aveline smirked. “You’re right to feel uneasy. He’s lost his mind lately.”

“It’s fine, don’t worry about him. You go to bed. I’m going back to Parkview Estates tonight.”

Her hand injury wasn’t serious, but she still didn’t want Collin and Paulina to see it and worry.
