Chapter 24
Now, she stood in the studio, feeling surrounded by her mother’s traces. She felt so complicated.
But she knew she couldn’t stay long. If Jacob, Courtney, or Josephine suddenly came back, then she would be in trou-
ble.
There were nine paintings in the studio, eight of which were completed, and one was not. Aveline remembered that her mother was very sick at that time, and she passed away before she completed her last painting.
Aveline came back from her memories and quickly put the paintings into three paper boxes and then handed the box- es over to Fiona. She also wanted to take away the painting boards, brushes, and other items that her mother had used, so she put them all into another box and handed it to Fiona as well.
After doing so, Aveline got out of the studio through the broken window and, together with Fiona, carried these paint- ings onto the car before returning to retrieve the paintings hanging in the other places in the villa.
In the dining room, Hilda had been cursing all the time. But she was in Jasmine’s control, so she couldn’t come out to stop Aveline.
There are five paintings hanging up in the villa, one of which was originally hung in the master bedroom. It was an oil painting of Jacob, Bethany, and Aveline playing in the garden.
At that time, Jacob and Bethany were still young, and Aveline was a five–year–old little girl.
But now, this painting was no longer in the master bedroom. Because Jacob married Courtney, he took that painting off.
Aveline searched many places, but she couldn’t find this painting.
She strongly suspected that Jacob and Courtney had destroyed that painting.
This made her feel very upset and angry.
She used to have a happy family of three. But now, her mother was dead, while his father married his mistress and let his illegitimate daughter move in. How ironic. But anyway, she had to find that painting because it was drawn by her
mother with love.
Just as Aveline was about to go ask Hilda where that painting was, she heard the sound of the car engine from out-
side.
Aveline and Fiona exchanged a glance and then strode to the living room, looking out the window. Then, they saw a black Bentley.
Xavier and Josephine got out of the car and saw Aveline’s and Fiona’s cars parked in the courtyard.
Then, Josephine said deliberately and loudly, “Oh, darling, looks like Aveline is back.”

Chapter 24
After Xavier and Josephine walked into the living room, Xavier stared at Aveline, while Josephine had that weird half–smile on her face.
“Aveline, you’re really back! That’s a surprise.”
Aveline ignored Xavier and asked Josephine coldly, “The painting that used to hang in the master bedroom. Where is it now?”
Suddenly, Hilda, who was in the dining room, shouted, “Josie, Aveline came to steal the paintings!”
Now, there was no need for Jasmine to control Hilda anymore, so she simply let her go.
Josephine was stunned, while Xavier just frowned slightly. Just then, the two of them noticed the paper box on the ta- ble in the living room, with a few paintings in it.
Josephine immediately accused, “Aveline, how could you come and steal our paintings while we were not home?”
Hilda ran to Josephine’s side and said fiercely, “She also broke the window of the studio on the second floor and stole all the paintings there.”
But Aveline stated coldly, “They’re my mom’s paintings. I just came to take away my mom’s things, not steal. Now, where’s the painting?”
“You can’t take these paintings away!”
As Josephine spoke, she walked to the big paper box.
Seeing this, Jasmine and Fiona wanted to stop her, but Xavier suddenly stepped up and blocked them.
In the end, Josephine took away that paper box.
Aveline didn’t expect that Xavier would stop them. She stared at him with cold eyes.
Fiona thought this was ridiculous and unbelievable, sneering, “What do you mean, Mr. Beltran? Helping your mis- tress, the illegitimate daughter, to occupy Aveline’s mom’s paintings?”
Xavier looked at Aveline and explained, “I just don’t wanna see any conflict between you.”
