Chapter 296
“Mr. Beltran, your lunch.”
As he spoke, the hotel manager glanced at Aveline standing behind Xavier, a strange look flashing in his eyes.
Aveline wasn’t surprised. After all, he must be shocked to suddenly find out she was Xavier’s wife.
Xavier stepped aside. “Come in.”
The manager pushed the cart inside.
Xavier said, “You can go now.”
“Yes, Mr. Beltran.”
As he spoke, the manager couldn’t help but glance at Aveline again, giving her a respectful nod before leaving and closing the door.
Xavier lifted the covers, revealing a plate of pasta, a bowl of salad, and a bowl of soup.
“You’ve probably eaten already, right?
Want to have some more?”
He said, looking over at Aveline with a calm expression.
Aveline replied, “Go back to your room and eat.”
She had just been saving his face in front of the manager, otherwise, she would have kicked the cart right out.
Xavier looked away and said lightly, “So that means you don’t want any.”
Then he moved the food to the coffee table and started to eat.
Aveline felt annoyed and couldn’t stand it. “What exactly are you doing here?”
“I’m hungry. We’ll talk after I’ve eaten.”
Aveline gave him a cold look, but in the end, her good manners overcame her anger.

Chapter 296
She put her purse on the nightstand and went into the bathroom to wash her hands.
When she came out, she took her phone from her purse and texted Fiona.
[Did you get your room?]
[Xavier’s here, in my room.]
Fiona replied: [I’m in my room. Huh? What’s he doing there?]
[I’m coming over.]

Aveline texted back, [Don’t come. He mentioned divorce. I think he’s here to talk about it. Let me see what he has to say.]
[My grandpa Collin must have talked to Rupert, that’s why he came all the way here.]
Fiona: [That’s good, then. Let me know if you need anything.]
[It would be best if he could just produce the divorce papers and we could get this over with peacefully.]
Aveline glanced at Xavier.
She didn’t see a briefcase or an envelope with him; he clearly hadn’t brought the divorce papers.
Xavier caught her looking from the corner of his eye and said lightly, “Hungry now?
This salad is pretty good. Want to try some?”
Aveline coldly looked away and got up to pour a glass of water.
Just then, Xavier’s phone started to ring.
Xavier glanced at the screen, then looked up at Aveline’s back before answering the phone and putting it on speaker.
“Hello.”
“Darling…”
The moment she heard that voice say that word, Aveline knew it was Josephine. Her nerves tensed, and she frowned slightly.
She hadn’t expected Xavier to be crazy enough to put the call on speaker, letting her hear that it was Josephine calling.

Chapter 296
“Josephine, haven’t I told you not to call me that?”
Xavier interrupted Josephine, his voice slightly cold.

Josephine was quiet for a moment, then said, “Oh, I forgot again, Xav. It’s a habit, I can’t break it just like that.”
Xavier said flatly, “Break it. And I’m your brother–in–law.”
Josephine was silent for a bit. “Yeah, I get it, brother–in–law.”
Xavier asked her, “What do you need?”
“Oh, I was just calling to ask if you’ve had lunch. I’m with Gerald, do you want to come join us?”
Aveline’s lips curled into a sneer. Xavier, oh Xavier, she thought, you’re being so obvious. What kind of trick are you trying to pull?
