Chapter 333

“Ms. Sutton, Mr. Beltran took your invitation to the Patriarch’s birthday banquet very seriously. He specifically told me to pick out the best for you.”

“Afterward. Assistant Steele also got the pictures of the dresses and jewelry from me, but I guess Mr. Beltran is a typical clueless straight guy and so busy with work, he probably didn’t look carefully, or maybe he looked but didn’t remember.”

“It was mainly because Assistant Steele didn’t remind Mr. Beltran, so he… he accidentally gave that jewelry set away.’

“I hope you can understand.”

Aveline played dumb, “If you hadn’t called to explain, I wouldn’t have known. I would’ve just thought some tycoon had bought the items Mr. Beltran had reserved.”

“I didn’t mind in the first place.”

“But, Rebecca, you said Assistant Steele denies you asked him about it. Do you want me to have a word with Mr. Beltran for you, so he doesn’t blame you?”

Aveline was feeling mischievous now, wanting to mess with Xavier’s special assistant who had been neglecting her.

Rebecca certainly hoped Aveline would put in a good word for her, but she still felt embarrassed. “Ms. Sutton, I appreciate the thought. Mr. Beltran is very generous; he probably won’t blame me.’

Aveline laughed. “It’s nothing. Don’t worry, I’ll put in a good word for you.”

Rebecca said quickly, “Thank you, Ms. Sutton.”

“Heh, you’re welcome.”

After hanging up, Rebecca walked out of the conference room in a pretty good mood,

Claude had just delivered some documents and was walking out of the office.

When Rebecca saw him, the smile on her face vanished, and she returned to her desk.

Claude walked over. “You didn’t run your mouth, did you?”

Rebecca replied with a straight face, “Claude, why have you been worried all day that I’d run my mouth? I’m just a secretary, I wouldn’t dare say anything out of line.”

Claude shot her a cold glare, then turned and walked away.

Rebecca remembered she needed to report to Mr. Beltran, so she got up and hurried to knock on his door

Hearing Xavier’s deep voice, she opened the door and went in. “Mr. Beltran.”

Xavier was looking at his computer. When he heard Rebecca’s voice, his gaze quickly shifted to her, his dark eyes narrowing.

“Did you explain things to Ms. Sutton?”

“Yes.”

“What did she say?”

“Ms. Sutton said she doesn’t mind. She said it’s all in the past and that she’s already picked out another set.”

Rebecca didn’t dare mention that Aveline had asked if Mr. Beltran truly didn’t know.

She figured Ms. Sutton was just teasing, not actually upset about it.

Xavier’s expression remained tense; he didn’t seem happy at all with what Rebecca had said.

How could Aveline not mind? She was probably even angrier.

She was just being polite to Rebecca.

He would have felt better if Aveline had complained about him to Rebecca, or even called to yell at him.

He wanted her to cause a scene, but she wouldn’t. She just gave him the cold shoulder.

Rebecca couldn’t read Mr. Beltran’s expression. She asked cautiously, “Mr. Beltran, Ms. Sutton said she doesn’t mind. Everything should be fine then, right?”

“Ms. Sutton is a really nice person.”

Xavier smiled. “Yeah, she’s nice to you.”

She wasn’t to him, though.
