Chapter 398
Leona ate a couple of pastries and drank a cup of tea. Feeling much better, she then sighed.
“Ah, that’s much better. I was just at the Patriarch’s place, and I was about to die from anger.”
Hearing this, it sounded like bad news. Josephine and Courtney exchanged a look.
Courtney smiled. “What happened? You’re all family, you should communicate properly. How could you get that an- gry?”
Leona snorted. “I really don’t know what Xavier is thinking. We have Bryan’s testimony, and Josie’s blood donation is also proof, yet he insists on defending Aveline.”
“He told the Patriarch that he’s getting engaged and marrying Aveline because he likes her. I don’t buy it. I have no idea what kind of dirt Aveline has on him.”
“So pathetic.”
Josephine and Courtney looked at each other in astonishment.
Xavier likes Aveline?
No way.
“Josie, Bryan said that on the day of the incident, you were wearing a pair of women’s high–heeled leather shoes. He saw them. You still have those shoes, right?”
Josephine quickly composed her expression and nodded. “Yes, I do. After that day, I never wore those shoes again. I’ve kept them put away.”
“Because whenever I put on those shoes, I’m reminded of the pain Xav went through that day, and it makes me feel awful.”
As she spoke, she lowered her head, a desolate look on her face.
Courtney glanced at her daughter, frowning slightly. Josephine’s expression was wrong, as if Xavier had died.
But Leona didn’t notice. She just thought Josephine was so devoted, and took her hand.
“You’re the thoughtful one. Aveline is nothing compared to you.”
Courtney took a sip of her juice and asked, “So, did your Patriarch believe what Bryan said?”
Leona replied, “The Patriarch is a cautious man. He’ll definitely have someone look into it.”
“Besides Bryan, he’ll probably check the hospital too.”
“Josie donated blood to Xavier back then. The hospital should have a record of that, right?”
As she said this, Leona looked over at Josephine.
Josephine didn’t know how to answer for a moment, so she looked at her mother.
