Dylan greeted him. “Mr. Beltran.”

Xavier’s expression darkened slightly. He glanced at him, gave a faint “Mm.” and walked toward his room.

Amy had something to say to Xavier, so she followed behind him.

Dylan also walked over and said, “Mr. Beltran, what you asked me at dinner felt strange, so I called Josie to get the full story.”

Xavier opened the door, listened, and glanced at him. “Is that so? Come in and talk.”

The three of them entered the room. Xavier walked to the liquor cabinet, poured some whiskey, and asked, “Want a glass?”

Dylan saw this as a chance to get on Mr. Beltran’s good side and said, “That looks like good stuff. I’ll have a glass, then.”

Xavier poured a glass for Dylan and handed it to him.

Dylan took it. “Thanks, Mr. Beltran.’

Xavier took a sip of his whiskey, his dark eyes giving Dylan a cool glance, then walked to the sofa and sat down.

“Come and sit.”

“Yes, Mr. Beltran.”

After sitting down, Dylan took a sip of whiskey and said, “This really is good stuff.”

Xavier didn’t say anything, his gaze lowered to the liquor in his glass.

Amy sat in a chair not far away, silent and still like an invisible person.

Dylan thought that Mr. Beltran must be waiting for him to speak, so he said:

“Mr. Beltran, Josie said Leona came to her unexpectedly last night, saying she needed a place fo someone to stay for the night. Josie remembered I wasn’t back in the city for the weekend and my house was empty, so she had the butler take Leona to my place.”

Xavier took another sip of whiskey, his eyes still lowered, not looking at Dylan, and said flatly:

“Didn’t Josephine know the person Leona brought was Bryan?”

Dylan replied, “She didn’t know. She said the person was in the car and didn’t show their face, so she didn’t know who it was.”

Xavier maintained his cool tone. “Is that so? Josephine knows Bryan. If she had seen him, she would have found it strange that Leona needed to find a place for him to stay overnight.”

“Bryan has a home in Entora.”

Dylan replied, “I told Josie it was Bryan, and she was very surprised too.”

“She didn’t know Leona was taking Bryan to see the Patriarch?”

Dylan froze. Courtney hadn’t mentioned that. He thought for a moment and replied:

“Josie didn’t say. She… she probably didn’t know.”

Xavier gave a cool, noncommittal “mm” and said nothing more.

Dylan felt that even though Xavier wasn’t looking at him, his whole aura was calm yet cold, and it was as if Xavier had invisible eyes that could see right through his thoughts.

He told himself it was just an illusion born from his own guilty conscience.

A powerful man like Xavier, head of a major corporation, naturally inspired fear. His psychological reaction was normal.

Dylan looked down and drank his whiskey, hiding his nervousness.

Xavier remained silent, as if lost in his own secret world, or perhaps immersed in his own emotions.

After a while, he spoke. “You were waiting for me outside all this time just to tell me this?”

Dylan was startled and quickly replied, “No, I… I was just taking a walk in the hallway and happened to see you coming out of the construction room, so I thought I’d mention it.”

“Alright, I understand.”

Dylan heard this and knew it was his cue to leave. He stood up. “Then I won’t disturb you any longer, Mr. Beltran.”

He put down his glass, and Xavier said, “Didn’t you say it was good whiskey? Take it with you.”
