Josephine knew the Patriarch liked Alfred’s paintings, so she took Bethany’s treasured painting to get on his good side.
Xavier looked over at Aveline. She appeared expressionless, but there was a coldness in her eyes as she stared at the painting.
She must have been furious.
Xavier reached for her hand, but Aveline instinctively yanked it away.
Xavier glanced at Aveline, knowing that whenever it was about Josephine, she would absolutely hate him too.
Fiona saw it all. She walked past Xavier, tutting twice. “Mr. Beltran, your darling isn’t very decent, is she? Using someone else’s collector’s item to get on your grandfather’s good side.”
Xavier turned to her, his dark eyes brooding, a silent warning for her not to make things worse.
Paulina looked at the painting and picked up her napkin to dab at the corners of her eyes.
Collin stroked the picture frame, his expression complex. He didn’t dare touch the painting itself, afraid he would damage it.
Rupert felt that since it was Collin’s milestone birthday, they shouldn’t let things get too sentimental, so he said,
“Collin, I heard from Xavier that you like drinking tea and collecting it, so I tracked down a few tins of nice premium oolong tea for you.”
With that, he motioned for the butler to bring the tins of premium oolong tea to Collin.
Aveline went over to help Collin put the painting on the sofa so he could take the tea.
Collin looked at it, took a sniff, and sighed, “This is good tea. It couldn’t have been cheap.”
Lauren said, “Oh, for the, buying a few tins of tea is no big deal.”
Rupert shot her a glare for her tactless comment, then smiled. “As long as you like it, Collin.”
After he finished, he glanced at Xavier, signaling for him to present his birthday gift.

Chapter 437
Navier went to get it and said to Collin, “Collin, my birthday gift is also a painting.”
11 288 Vouchers
Collin smiled and nodded. “Good, good, good. Thank you, Xavier. That’s very thoughtful of you ”
As he spoke, he reached out to take it.
But Xavier said to Aveline, “Aveline, come help me. I’ll unwrap it so your maternal grandparents can see what kind of painting it is.”
Since he’d asked, Aveline had no choice but to go over, reluctantly holding one side of the painting while he unwrapped it.
The moment the wrapping came off and she saw the actual painting, Aveline froze.
At the same time, Jasmine let out a small gasp, because she recognized it as the painting from the photo Marjorie had flaunted on her Social Feed a few days ago.
Fiona and Julian stepped closer for a look and recognized Bethany’s signature.
Xavier had gifted Collin a painting by Aveline’s mother.
Aveline gave Xavier a long, hard look, wondering, Did he get this back from Josephine?
Heh. He’d actually do something like that.
Xavier ignored Aveline’s stare and asked Collin, “Collin, do you recognize the artist?”
Collin and Paulina had never seen this painting before, because Bethany had painted it in her youth and sold it to raise start–up money for Jacob.
But as the elderly couple looked closer, they of course recognized Bethany’s signature.
Paulina pointed at the signature, her voice trembling. “This… this is…”
Just then, a knock came from outside the private dining room door.
Everyone assumed it was a waiter or the manager. Rupert told the butler to get the door and send them away if it was.
The butler went to open the door, only to find Josephine and Jacob standing outside. He froze.
Xavier and Aveline hadn’t mentioned it, so no one else knew Josephine and Jacob were there, let alone that Xavier had asked Amy to kick them out.
Afraid the butler would block them, Jacob pushed him aside with one hand and walked into the private dining room with Josephine.
