Chapter 535
I think Xay resents me for saving him. He didn’t want me to be the one who saved him; he wished it was my sister.”
As she spoke, Josephine’s eyes reddened. To Gerald, it looked like tears were about to fall at any moment, but she was trying hard to hold them back.
Gerald was stunned. “What do you mean, he didn’t want you to be the one who saved him?”
“Gerald, I want to go home.”
Josephine wasn’t feeling wronged or sad now; she was panicking because things had taken a bizarre turn.
She never expected that all this time, Xavier’s kindness to her had been fake. He had always resented that she was the one who saved him, wishing it had been Aveline instead.
What kind of twisted mindset was that?
She had to get home quickly and tell her mom, to have her mom analyze what was going on.
When Aveline heard from Fiona about the conflict between Xavier and Josephine, she didn’t feel much of anything and asked calmly:
“You didn’t hear what they said?”
Fiona replied to her, “No.
I only heard Josephine yell at Xavier, ‘Why are you doing this to me? I saved you.“”
“I didn’t hear what Xavier said when he turned back to her. It probably wasn’t anything nice; Xavier lowered his voice when he spoke.”
“From the look in his eyes, it was like he had some deep–seated hatred for Josephine.”
Aveline heard this and sneered, “Play the part for long enough, and you start to really believe you’re Xavier’s savior.”
Fiona asked in surprise, “Aveline, what’s going on? I only heard you say that the suspected you weren’t the one who saved Xavier. How did Xavier come to think Josephine saved him?”

Chapter 535
Aveline replied, “I only found out recently myself. Apparently, back then, Xavier’s driver told him it was Josephine who saved him, not me.”
“Damn it, what was wrong with that driver? Did Josephine bribe him?”
Aveline told Fiona what she knew.
Fiona gasped, “Ah. So, you’re saying Xavier now knows he was played by Josephine, and that’s why he’s investigating her?”
“No wonder he’s treating Josephine like that. He’s lashing out from humiliation.”
“Aveline, so is this why Xavier won’t divorce you? Because he found out it was really you who saved him, not Josephine?”
Aveline said flatly, “Who knows. He claims Bryan lied to him, that Josephine lied to him, but how would I know what he’s really thinking.”
“Anyway, I don’t care anymore. All I want is a divorce.”
Just then, Aveline’s phone rang. She saw it was Xavier and rejected the call.
Then she told Fiona, “Xavier just called me.”
Fiona scoffed, “It’s because I saw him, so he had to rush to explain things to you. I wonder what lies he’s going to feed you.”
Just then, the designated driver service arrived and knocked on the car window. Fiona said to Aveline, “The driver’s here, I have to go. Are you coming back to the city this weekend? If not, I’ll come see you at Mount Ardwood.”
Fiona said as she opened the car door for the driver.
Aveline replied, “Isn’t The Grand Blossom Ball this Saturday? I promised Sebastian I would go.”
“Oh, I forgot. But will your foot be okay by then?”
“We’ll see. If I can walk, I’ll go. I’ll be back in the city on Friday. We’ll be in touch then.
Aveline hung up, and Xavier immediately texted her, “Did Fiona tell you?”
“It’s not what she saw. If you had answered my call, I could have explained.”
“I’ll tell you when we see each other.
Aveline couldn’t help but text back, “Don’t you think you have a split personality?”
