Chapter 557
“We had a perfectly good plan at home. You were supposed to get Aveline and accuse her of being ungrateful to Jacob. Why did you bring up that project? Now look, Xavier said he gave the project to his brother–in–law. Jacob gets nothing. Are you happy now?”
As soon as she was blamed, Gloria remembered what she was supposed to say and stammered, “I, I, I just forgot for a moment.”
“You guys have me fainting one minute and waking up the next. My head’s all muddled, how could I remember?”
“Besides, what was wrong with me bringing up that project?
It’s a good thing I did. Otherwise, we wouldn’t have even known that Aveline had her husband give the project to someone else.”
Jacob had been angry at Josephine for lying about him deceiving Courtney years ago, and was about to blame Courtney for misleading her, but when he heard Courtney and his mother arguing over that project, he suddenly felt the painful loss of a huge money–making opportunity.
He pointed at his mother, “Mom, you didn’t actually have a cerebral hemorrhage, so why didn’t you just say what Courtney told you to? Ugh, tell me, what am I going to do about my company
now?”
Devin panicked and quickly walked up to Jacob. “What’s going on? Without that project, your company is going to fail?”
Jacob turned his face away, annoyed and impatient, not wanting to talk about the company with Devin.
After all, Devin’s family was useless except for spending his money.
Josephine saw the topic had shifted and everyone was no longer focused on what she’d said, so she held her mother’s hand.
Courtney patted the back of her hand, but still shot her a glare, blaming her for speaking recklessly.
Jacob asked Courtney, “What do we do now?”
Courtney replied, “It’s fine. Aveline came tonight, after all. The old lady blamed her, and people at

the hospital heard it. We’ll proceed as planned.”
Jacob didn’t know what she had plotted and asked, “What plan?”
Courtney answered him. “A plan that will get you that project.”
Jacob’s eyes lit up. “There’s still a chance.”

Courtney scoffed, “Who do you think Xavier is? Anything he gives away, he can take back just as easily if he wants to. Besides, the other party is his older sister’s husband, he’s family. Xavier can transfer that project to you anytime.”
“That’s good, that’s good.”
Aveline walked out of the hospital with a cold expression, completely ignoring Xavier. Xavier followed her silently, knowing she was in a bad mood and not wanting to bother her.
Once in the car, before Xavier could speak, Aveline said to Amy, “Back to Garden Estate.”
Amy glanced at the rearview mirror, waiting for Xavier to speak.
Seeing this, Aveline opened the car door to get out. Xavier, who had just gotten in, quickly pulled
her back.
“What are you doing? Amy is my driver, of course she listens to me.”
“Sit tight.”
“Amy, back to Garden Estate. From now on, you listen to my wife.”
Amy quickly replied, “Yes, Mr. Beltran. I’m sorry, ma’am. It won’t happen again.”
Aveline didn’t say a word, closed the car door, and buckled her seatbelt.
Seeing this, Xavier breathed a sigh of relief, truly worried she would get out of the car.
The black Bentley drove away from the hospital. Xavier looked over at Aveline and saw her facing the window, unsure if she was ignoring him or just still in a bad mood.
He said, “That Eastwood Park project, Marcus happens to want it. I’ll make a call tomorrow and let Marcus have it. I won’t give it to your dad, or to Jacob.”
Aveline said flatly, “You already said that at the hospital. You don’t need to repeat it.”
“But Jacob’s illegitimate daughter is going to be heartbroken.”
