Chapter 600
So he said seriously, “Uncle, I wasn’t joking. When my dad doesn’t come home at night and only gets back the next day, he often faints in the bedroom.”
Lauren was startled when she heard this and quickly asked Leona, “Leona, is there something wrong with Marcus’s health? Has he been to the hospital for a check–up?”
Leona said impatiently, “Marcus is just hungover. He comes home and passes out, he’s not fainting. There’s nothing wrong with his health.”
But Mason retorted, “Mom, you’re the one who said, ‘That jerk, he’s passed out again.“”
Xavier, Lauren, and Brielle were left speechless.
Leona frowned at her son. “Mommy was using a figure of speech.”
Mason opened his mouth, about to say something else, but his mom glared at him, and he immediately fell silent.
Xavier saw this but didn’t show any reaction. He placed Valentina next to Brielle and said, “Uncle is going to eat first.”
But Valentina ran after him. “Uncle, I want to see what yummy food you’re eating.”
Mason glanced at his mom, then followed Valentina into the dining room.
Xavier saw there were fried chicken wings and asked the two little ones if they wanted some.
What kid doesn’t love fried food? Of course they said yes, so he told them to go wash their hands and come eat with their fingers.
While eating, Xavier watched Mason happily munching on a chicken wing and asked in a casual
tone:
“Mason, does your dad often not come home at night?”
Mason replied while eating, “Yeah, he didn’t come home last night either. He only got back this morning when Mom and I were leaving to come here.”
“Was he drinking?”

Mason thought for a moment, then shook his head. “I don’t know, but when Dad drinks, I can smell the alcohol when he holds me. There was no smell this morning, so I guess he didn’t.”
“So, didn’t Mom ask Dad why he didn’t come home last night?”
Mason answered, “Mom asked Dad if he wanted to come to the Beltran’s mansion with us, but Dad said he was really tired and went to bed.”
Lily listened to Xavier and Mason talk, then chimed in, “Uncle, my dad comes home every night.” Xavier said calmly, “Yeah, Mason’s dad is very busy with work.”
Lily tilted her head and said, “But my mom says my dad is really busy with work, too.”
Mason said, “You don’t get it. Your dad is busy during the day. My dad is busy day and night.”
Lily looked like she sort of understood. “Oh.”
Leona walked into the dining room, looking like she had something to say to Xavier, and sent the two kids to the living room.
Xavier glanced at her coolly, didn’t say anything, and kept eating.
Leona sat across from him and said, “Did you see the statement Josie’s dad released?”
Xavier didn’t answer, and Leona took that as a yes.
“The Patriarch went out to play golf early this morning. Who knows how angry he’ll be when he comes back and hears this news.”
Xavier said coolly, “Don’t worry, the Patriarch definitely won’t get angry, and he won’t think it’s a big deal.”
Leona scoffed, “A father disowning his daughter is a scandal. How could the Patriarch not take it seriously?”
“So
you don’t think it’s a big deal either?”
Xavier replied, “If Aveline doesn’t care, then I don’t care.”
“Besides, you don’t have to worry. There’s no way Jacob would disown Aveline, because he definitely wouldn’t want to lose me as his son–in–law.‘
“Aveline might want to cut ties with him, but he would never think of it.”
Leona said scornfully, “Ha, she wants to cut ties with Jacob? Does that mean she’s giving up the
