Gloria was sharp enough to sit down, calm down, and figure it out. The brothers, Devin and Jacob, must have conspired to not answer her calls or take her back to the city, forcing her to stay at Mount Ardwood and bother Aveline.
Gloria was so angry she slapped the sofa. She wanted to go find Aveline but didn’t dare to. Besides, she remembered she had forgotten to ask which room Aveline was in.
She sent a text to Aveline, 【Which room are you in?】
Aveline was out for a walk. She glanced at the message but didn’t reply.
When Gloria saw Aveline hadn’t replied for a while, she sent another message, 【Come to my room. I have something to tell you.】
Aveline still didn’t reply.
Gloria was helpless, left to worry alone in her hotel room.
Aveline returned to the hotel from her walk, didn’t go to Gloria’s room, and went straight back to her own.
Jasmine asked her, “Are you sure it’s okay to leave the old woman there by herself?”
Aveline replied, “I scared her. She won’t dare to leave that room. Tonight, she’ll just have to stay put and sleep.”
“If Jacob doesn’t come get her tomorrow, I’m calling the police.”
Julian said, “The old woman is only staying for one night. I’m afraid the police won’t get involved in a family matter like this.”
Aveline was annoyed. “Then just let her stay a few more days. We’ll figure it out then.”
She went back to her room, and after taking a shower, she got a message from Xavier, 【I’m back in the country.】
【Eric told me some things. Answer my call, we need to talk.】
Then, Xavier called.
Aveline ignored him and didn’t pick up.
It for a while before stopping. Then Xavier sent another message: [Honey, I just wanted to
rang ask you about what happened back then. Please pick up, okay?]
Aveline didn’t reply. A moment later, he sent another one: [Do you know whose blood the blood bank sent for my surgery back then?]
Aveline stared at the message, her expression darkening.
Of course she knew whose it was, but with Xavier only asking now, she no longer had any desire
to tell him.
Ha, if Xavier didn’t suspect Josephine had lied to him, would he be trying to look into it again, or even asking her about what happened back then?
So, she still didn’t reply and put her phone down.
Xavier was in the car, driving from the airport to the city. When he saw Aveline wasn’t replying, he said to Amy:
“Go straight to Mount Ardwood.”
Amy froze, glancing in the rearview mirror, but didn’t say anything.
It’s not like Mr. Beltran would listen to her advice anyway. Forget it.
But after a moment, Xavier thought that even if he had asked Aveline back then, she probably wouldn’t have answered him. He sighed and said:
“Never mind, let’s go back to the mansion.”
He’d been out of the country for two days, and there was a lot of work waiting for him at the company.
Back at the mansion, Xavier walked in to find Rupert and Lauren still awake, watching TV.
Lauren was surprised. “Why didn’t you tell us you were coming back?
Have you eaten?”
Xavier replied, “No. Tell the butler to make something for me and Amy.”
Lauren hurried off to find the butler.
