Chapter 638
Jacob jumped up. “What nonsense are you talking about? I’m tearing my hair out over the company right now. How could I have the mind to keep the other woman?”
“I can barely afford to support you and your daughter. You think I have money for the other woman?”
“It was profitable, but after I brought you and your daughter back, you spend money like water. I’m not even making as much as you’re spending.”
Courtney flared up, pointing at Jacob as she yelled, “What do you mean by that, you bastard? You’re a man, isn’t it a matter of course to support your wife and child? Not to mention, I’m carrying your son!”
Jacob glanced at Courtney’s big belly and knew he had to swallow his anger for now. He’d settle the score with this greedy woman after his son was born.
So he just gave a cold snort, didn’t say a word, and walked away.
As the car pulled out of the yard, Jacob grew more and more frustrated. Courtney was nothing like Bethany. When Bethany was alive, if his company ran into trouble, she always found a way to help him. If she couldn’t solve the problem, Bethany would sell her paintings to get him out of a tight spot.
Sigh, why did Bethany have to die so young? It would have been great if she had lived a few more years, until after his company had grown strong.
Courtney had no idea that Jacob was just reminiscing about how good Bethany was. The moment Jacob left, she was so angry she grabbed a teacup from the coffee table and smashed it.
Josephine watched with a cold look, taunting, “What’s the use of smashing it after he’s left? Do it in his face if you’ve got the guts.”
Courtney glared at her, “You think I wouldn’t dare to smash it in front of Jacob?”
“The company’s in a bad state right now. I just don’t want him to have a breakdown. If he can’t take it, things will only get worse.”
Josephine was alarmed and quickly asked, “Mom, what’s going on? Is Dad’s company really doing that badly? How can that be?”

Courtney said with a grim face. “I don’t know the specifics, but seeing how troubled Jacob is, the situation must be really bad.”
Josephine was terrified. She moved closer to her mother and grabbed her hand. “Mom, what do we do then? Is it really going to be like what Aveline said…”
Aveline wouldn’t even have to make a move; Jacob would bankrupt the company all on his own.
Courtney pulled her hand away, walked over to the sofa holding her belly, sat down, took a few deep breaths, and said:
“Even if Jacob goes bankrupt, the three of us will be fine. Over the years, the money and assets under my name are more than enough for us to live on for the rest of our lives.”
As she spoke, she looked at Josephine. “Besides, didn’t you get quite a bit from Xavier, too?”
Josephine nodded, but suddenly thought of something and said, “But Mom, Aveline just said that as his wife, she can sue to get back the things Xavier gave me.”
Courtney scoffed. “She can want that all she wants, but Xavier would have to agree. Taking back gifts? Do you think Xavier, the respected chairman and CEO of the, can afford that kind of humiliation?”
“But the director’s fee for the movie, and the extra pay I gave the actors… Sandra said I have to give it all back.”
Courtney replied, “She’s just talking. If Xavier really tries to force you, we can go to the media and blow it up. Let’s see who gets embarrassed then.”
Josephine sat down beside her mother. “Mom, what assets do you actually have? Dad’s company is in this state, aren’t you going to help him?”
