Josephine glanced at her phone. “It’s Friday.”
Courtney frowned. “No wonder the old lady’s back. Aveline came back to the city for the weekend and dropped her off.”
Gloria was still outside, relentlessly ringing the doorbell and shouting. Josephine glanced over. “So, what do we do?”
Just then, Hilda came out. Seeing Courtney and Josephine in the living room but not answering the door, she found it strange but didn’t dare let it show on her face. She just said:
“Ma’am, Miss, that’s the old lady’s voice.”
As she spoke, she moved to open the door.
Courtney stopped her. “Wait.”
Hilda stopped, looking at Courtney in confusion.
Courtney said, “Aveline is the one who brought the old lady back. If we don’t open the door and don’t make a sound, Aveline will think no one’s home and take her away.”
Hilda understood and nodded. “I’ll go back to the kitchen to cook then.”
Seeing that no one was opening the door even after she’d shouted herself hoarse, Gloria turned and went back to the car. “No one’s opening the door.”
The old lady’s suitcase was still in the car, so Aveline hadn’t driven off. She hadn’t expected the Sutton family to actually refuse to open the door for the old lady.
Aveline didn’t believe no one was home. Even if the masters of the house were out, Hilda would definitely be there.
It had to be Courtney who wouldn’t let Hilda open the door.
Aveline said coolly, “Someone’s home. They’re just not opening the door to let you in.”
“Get your suitcase out of the car and wait by the door.”
Gloria cried out, “No way! If my son is home, there’s no way he wouldn’t open the door for me.”

“Get your luggage, get out of the car, and then call your son.”
Gloria still refused, taking out her phone to call Jacob.

With a cold expression, Aveline got out of the driver’s seat, went to the trunk, took out the suitcase, and placed it at Gloria’s feet.
Just as Jacob answered the old lady’s call, she saw what Aveline was doing and shrieked,
“What are you doing? You can’t leave! You have to wait until Jacob opens the door for me.”
Jacob heard her shouting and asked, “Mom, what’s wrong?”
“You didn’t actually go home, did you?”
“Jacob, aren’t you home? Why is no one opening the door for me?”
As she spoke, Gloria reached out to grab Aveline, but Aveline dodged her and got in the car.
Jacob was shocked. “Mom, you really went home?”
“Why didn’t you tell me before you came back? How did you get back? Where’s Aveline?”
Gloria answered Jacob, “Aveline brought me back.”
As she spoke, she started banging on Aveline’s car door.
“Jacob, Aveline just dumped me at the front door! If you’re home, hurry up and open it!”
Jacob grew irritated. “Mom, didn’t I tell you to stick with Aveline? Even if you came back to the city, you were supposed to stay with her. Why did you come home?”
“Aveline is a jinx to us Suttons. I can’t stay with her.”
Jacob: “…
་་
What the hell was that?
Aveline rolled down the car window and said to the old lady in a cold voice, “Get away car. If I start driving and knock you over, it’ll just prove that I really am a jinx to you.”

When Gloria heard that, she got scared and quickly backed away, not daring to get near the car.
Aveline scoffed to herself and drove off.
Gloria snapped out of it and yelled into her phone, “Jacob, Aveline drove off! She left me here all
