But as soon as they met, reality would deal him a blow.
When he was holding Aveline just now, he really wanted to kiss her, but he knew if he forced it, she would likely reject him even more.
What a hassle. What a headache.
Xavier sat for a long while, then opened his eyes, glanced at the photos on the coffee table, picked them up, and walked out of the study to go downstairs.
Only Miranda was in the living room downstairs watching TV when Xavier asked her, “Where are the old folks? Out for a walk?”
Miranda replied, “The neighborhood is putting on a play this weekend. The old folks went to watch. I’ll go over and get them later.”
Xavier nodded, sat down, and handed the photos in his hand to Miranda.
“Miranda, take a look. Do you recognize this person, and the car?”
Miranda took them, confused, and looked through the photos.
Looking at the back, she shook her head and said, “It’s just their back. I can’t tell who it is.”
“As for the car, we have one, but not with this license plate.”
Xavier hummed and stood up. “Take a good look at the photos, in case you run into this person or this car, and then tell me.‘
“1 “These photos are for Aveline.” Hearing him say that, Miranda asked, “Who is this person?” Xavier thought for a moment, “Possibly a business rival, who’s done some things against me.” “Don’t tell the old folks, so they don’t worry.” “I’m leaving.” Aveline went into the study and quickly plugged the USB drive into the computer to check it. Then, she emailed the contents of the drive to Fiona, her expression grim as she picked up her phone to text her. [Xavier had a technician analyze the surveillance footage. It’s proof that Eileen tripped me.】 【The footage has been enhanced, so you can see it, but it’s not very clear. I don’t know if the judge will accept it. I sent it to your email, take a look.】 Fiona replied quickly, 【Okay, I’ll take a look first.】 [Xavier is being this nice?】 Aveline: 【He doesn’t want a divorce. He’s been decent to me lately.】 Fiona: 【Of course he doesn’t want a divorce. There’s no way he’d marry a woman like Josephine.】 Aveline didn’t go anywhere, just stayed in the study reading a book, waiting for Fiona’s message. About ten minutes later, Fiona called. “Aveline, I’ve seen it. I think it’s worth a shot.” We have Katie’s testimony and this surveillance footage. Plus, with the history between you, Courtney, and Josephine, the judge might believe Josephine had a motive to make Eileen do it.” Aveline was waiting to hear just that from Fiona. “I have nothing to lose. Of course I’m going to take the chance.” “The moment Eileen tripped me, it was over between us. She’s not my paternal cousin anymore.” “She can’t blame me for sending her to jail.” Fiona said, “Do you think she’ll admit that Josephine put her up to it?” Aveline scoffed, “If she’s going to cover for Josephine, then that must be true love.” Fiona snorted, “Josephine must have promised her something good to make her take the risk of tripping you. Otherwise, she has no grudge against you. Why would she do it?” “It all depends on whether Josephine can pay a price high enough to make Eileen willingly go to jail without ratting her out.” “I’ll get things ready and submit this evidence to the court on Monday. With new evidence, the next hearing will probably be postponed.” Aveline said calmly, “As long as they get punished, I can be patient.”
Xavier was driving back to the Beltran’s mansion when his phone rang. It was a call from Gerald, but he ignored it. It rang for a while, then stopped. Then it rang again. He didn’t answer, and it stopped again. Gerald sent him a text.
When Xavier arrived at the mansion and got out of the car, he finally looked at the text. Gerald had asked:
【Why aren’t you answering my calls?】
