Aveline took her phone out of her purse to call a car.

Xavier stood just half a step behind her. He glanced down at her phone screen, naturally knowing what she was do- ing, and frowned slightly.

Once Rupert’s car had left, Lauren immediately snapped angrily at Aveline, “Aveline, what the hell are you playing at? What do you want?”

Leona sneered, “Isn’t it obvious? It’s about that agreement. She wants a bigger share of Xavier’s assets.”

Aveline ignored them and walked toward the curb.

Lauren yelled, “You stop right there!”

Aveline paid her no mind and kept walking.

Xavier followed her and, reaching the front of the black Bentley, grabbed her arm.

Aveline was forced to stop. She turned to glare at him, then glanced at his hand, signaling for him to let go.

Xavier said coolly, “Didn’t you hear the Patriarch say we’re going back to the mansion tonight?”

Aveline tried to shake his hand off. “Didn’t you hear me tell the Patriarch about the divorce?”

Xavier’s expression turned cold. He pulled her to the car door. “Stop making a scene. You’ll see the new agreement tomorrow. Now get in the car. We’re going back to the mansion. Don’t make Grandfather any angrier. You’re still a daughter–in–law of the.”

Aveline looked at him coldly. “Xavier, this is the last time I’m playing along with your act. It won’t happen again.”

After saying that, she pushed him away with both hands, then opened the back door and got in the car.

Xavier got in after her, and Aveline had to slide over to the other side.

Xavier closed the car door, staring at her. His tone was slightly mocking. “You’ve really gotten bold.”

Aveline turned her cold face to the window, ignoring him.

Just then, her phone rang. She remembered the car she had called and quickly answered to apologize to the driver.

When they arrived at the Beltran’s mansion, Lauren was waiting on the front steps for Aveline. She warned her,

“You’d better behave yourself. The Patriarch has high blood pressure, you know?”

With that, Lauren went inside.

Aveline entered without showing any emotion.

Xavier followed behind her. His phone rang, and he answered, “Hello.”

Because he was so close behind her, Aveline heard Josephine’s voice.

Xavier said, “I’m back at the mansion. I won’t be coming back to Winslow Heights tonight.”

“It’s nothing, the Patriarch is a little upset.”

“Okay, good night.”

Rupert wasn’t in the living room. The butler said, “The Patriarch has gone upstairs. He asked for Mr. Beltran to meet him in the study.”

Lauren turned back, glared at Aveline, and then said to Xavier, “You should go comfort your grandfather and check his blood pressure while you’re at it.

Marrying a daughter–in–law like her is such a misfortune for this family.”

Xavier gave Aveline a detached look, then grunted an “Mmm” in response to Lauren.

Aveline said nothing and went straight upstairs.

Whenever she came back to the Beltran’s mansion before, she would stay in the bedroom Xavier had used since he was a child. She still had some of her things in there.

She walked in. As always, it was clean and tidy, with a faint, pleasant scent that gave her a sense of comfort and secu- rity the moment she entered.

The last time she was here was the day they got their marriage certificate. After one night, Xavier didn’t want to stay anymore and went back to Winslow Heights.
