Didn’t I tell you to hurry up and have a baby?”
Aveline pursed her lips. Just as she was about to speak, Xavier’s leg brushed against hers.
Frowning slightly, she turned to look at him and saw him watching her with a half–smile.
She knew what he meant. He was just warning her not to say the wrong thing and send the Patriarch’s blood pressure soaring first thing in the morning.
Aveline’s gaze turned cold. She looked away, then glanced over at the Patriarch.
The Patriarch had his head down, eating his rice congee, seemingly uninterested in Lauren’s question.
Since Xavier wasn’t speaking up, Aveline decided to remain silent and just drink her milk.
No matter how she looked at her, Lauren couldn’t stand Aveline. She said in a disgruntled tone, “Hurry up and have a baby, you hear? Once there’s a baby, you won’t be talking all this nonsense about divorce.”
Xavier glanced at Aveline. Seeing her unmoved expression, he chuckled and said to Lauren,
“Alright, I get it. Just relax and enjoy your breakfast.”
The Beltran’s mansion had a good chef, so the food was certainly excellent, but for Aveline, eating that plate of Pot- stickers was an ordeal.
When she finally finished, she wiped her mouth and said, “The Patriarch, I have to go.”
The Patriarch looked up at her. “Back to your studio?”
Aveline nodded, “Yes.”
“You didn’t drive here last night. Let Xavier give you a ride.”
Aveline said, “That’s not necessary. I’ll just get a cab.”
Xavier stood up. “Let’s go. You’re starting a business, save the cab fare.”
Aveline rose, her expression cool, said goodbye to the Patriarch again, and followed Xavier out of the dining room.
Once outside, as Aveline headed for the gate, Xavier grabbed her, looked down at her and said:
“You’ve gotten addicted to playing this game with me?”
Aveline turned and glared at Xavier coldly, “What do you mean?
Are
you addicted to grabbing my hand?”

Xavier looked down at her, his gaze deep and heavy. Seeing her glare back without any weakness, he smiled.
“Fine. The game isn’t over until we’re out of this courtyard. Get in the car.”
After speaking, he said to the driver, “Help my wife with her suitcase.”
The driver, stunned by the car door, quickly came over to take the suitcase Aveline was holding in her other hand.
“Ma’am…”
Aveline didn’t want to let go, but just then, the butler came out of the house and looked over at them curiously, so she had to release her grip.
Then she tried to pull Xavier’s hand away, and he let go easily. She turned, opened the back door, and got in the car.
Xavier got in the car too, and the driver drove out of the courtyard.
Once they reached the main road, Aveline said coldly, “You can let me out now, can’t you?”
Xavier didn’t say a word, just looked out the window, ignoring her.
The driver glanced at the rearview mirror, and seeing that Xavier remained silent, he kept driving.
Aveline was furious, but the driver wasn’t stopping, and she couldn’t exactly jump out. So she stared coldly out the window, treating Xavier like he was thin air.
When they arrived in front of the building at Anmin Residential Community, Aveline got out of the car without a word.
The driver got out to get Aveline’s suitcase.
Xavier rolled down the window and said, “Carry it upstairs for her.”
Aveline gave him a cold glance. His dark eyes were as still as an ancient well as he watched her. She coldly turned her face away and walked into the building.
At the elevator doors, Aveline took the suitcase. “You don’t need to come up.‘
