Chapter 111 A Vacation
The suspension notice went out to the entire company group chat at the same time. Kaia had just pulled into the parking garage when her phone started buzzing nonstop.
Warren: [What’s going on? Why did HR just announce your suspension in the main group?]
Vanessa: [Are you okay? Are you at the office? Did you see the group message?]
Kaia checked her phone for a while.
[I’m in the parking garage. I’ll be up in a minute.] She chose to respond only to Vanessa’s message.
Meanwhile, in Alex’s office, Jude was making his case with fierce determination. “Mr. Miller, why are you suspending Kaia?”
Alex looked troubled. “Jude, I know you think highly of your student. But we have to follow principles here. She went to help Jimmy with that copyright infringement lawsuit against Alfly Entertainment, didn’t she?
“I could’ve looked the other way if this had stayed under the radar, but now, Mr. Zane Graves is involved. You’re already handling their merger case. Don’t you think that’s a conflict?”
“She was just helping a friend out. It’s not like she was the lead

attorney, and she cleared it with me beforehand,” Jude argued. “Did Graves Group actually complain to you? But Mr. Miller, the merger isn’t Mr. Zane Graves‘ responsibility. Mr. Lucien Grave is handling it personally.”
The implication was clear. If the head of Graves Group hadn’t said anything, Zane had no authority to interfere.
“Don’t be ridiculous!” Alex snorted. “Lucien is still family, isn’t he? You think he’s going to sit back and watch outsiders mess with his nephew?
“And do you know who Mr. Alden Graves is pushing this time? His future wife! She’s suspended. Let her cool off for a while until this blows over, then she can come back.”
Jude shook his head with a sigh. “Mr. Miller, do you realize how damaging a suspension can be to her career?”
He’d been counting on promoting Kaia to non–equity partner after the merger deal wrapped up. If she really got suspended, how could he even bring it up later?
Alex’s words came with a threat. “Jude, get your head straight. Kaia’s just one of your students. Don’t mess everything up trying to protect her, think about the bigger picture!”
Jude couldn’t contain his frustration. “Did Miles rat me out? Mr. Miller, when is he going to stop stirring up trouble? Why don’t you just suspend me too while you’re at it!”

That’s enough! I don’t want to hear this nonsense, 60 HACK to your office. I have a client meeting in a few minutes.” Alex waved him off, clearly fed up.
When Kaia arrived, she saw Jude walking out with a gloomy
face.
Jude spotted her too. “Come to my office.”
Kaia understood and followed him.
Warren and Vanessa watched them go, exchanging worried glances. The tension in their group was thick enough to cut with a knife.
“Jude…” Kaia started to speak. One look at his face told her this situation wasn’t going to improve.
“I’m sorry. This is my fault. If I’d been firm about keeping you out of this, we might not be in this mess,” Jude sighed. “And that Miles is behind all of this!”
Kaia let out a bitter laugh. “I know. I insisted on getting
involved. You can’t blame yourself for that.”
“You stubborn girl. Was it worth messing up your career over some scumbag?”
Jude had already looked into it.

Luna was marrying Alden, and Alden used to be Kaia’s boyfriend. In any love triangle, someone always got hurt–and this time, it was Kaia.
Kaia didn’t bother defending herself. She knew Jude had the wrong idea. “It’s fine. What did Mr. Miller say? Am I suspended for long?”
Jude sighed, “At least until the merger’s done. Lucien didn’t even complain, so why is Zane jumping in and making a fuss? Alden won’t handle his own business, so he gets his daddy to come tattling. Unbelievable!”
Kaia froze. “Wait, you’re saying the person who got Mr. Miller to suspend me was Zane? Zane Graves from Graves Group?”
“Yeah.” Jude looked irritated. “His assistant contacted Miles. That sneaky bastard spends all day looking for dirt on us!
“Forget it. Just go home and treat it like a vacation. I’ll figure out the rest later.”
Kaia was touched. “Thanks, Jude. I’m sorry for all the trouble.”
“Whatever. Everyone screws up when they’re young.” Jude shrugged. “Next time you’re looking for a boyfriend, use better judgment. By the way, my cousin just got back from overseas. Want me to introduce you two?”
