Chapter 82 Snag an even better catch
“Mr. Graves…” Kimberly panicked instantly, waving her hands frantically. “Mr. Graves, I was talking about Kaia sneaking in without an invitation. I wasn’t referring to your date.”
Kimberly had assumed Lucien’s date was Kayla. When she watched him pull Kaia close and wrap his arm intimately around her shoulder, her jaw nearly hit the floor.
Her mind went blank, and her hands and feet turned cold.
So Lucien and Kaia really were involved! What she’d suspected at Claire’s funeral was now undeniable proof.
Lucien stared coldly at Kimberly. “What, does my date need an invitation too?”
Calvin burst out laughing. “Well, Lucien. Looks like your name doesn’t carry the weight it used to. How’d you let your girl get disrespected like that?”
Calvin beckoned to Kayla, who reluctantly walked over. He slipped his arm around her slim waist. “See? I’d never let my girlfriend get treated like that.”
Unlike her earlier arrogance, Kimberly now looked ready to burst into tears.

Kaia watched Kimberly with inner mockery.

A deep, magnetic voice spoke beside her car; the tone was deliberately low, with a soft breath at the end. “I’m sorry you had to deal with this. Security, please escort this person without an invitation out.”
Kimberly’s heart clenched in panic. No, they couldn’t throw her out! If they kicked her out now, how would she execute her plan?
Swallowing her pride, Kimberly turned to Kaia desperately. “Kaia, I do have an invitation! Please tell Mr. Graves I really do
have one!”
Kaia stared at her in disbelief. Sometimes, Kaia wondered if Kimberly’s brain was filled with cotton instead of common
sense.
Just moments ago, she’d been ready to throw Kaia out, and now she had the nerve to ask for help.
Kaia wasn’t a saint–there was no way she’d help her. She tugged gently at Lucien’s cufflink with her pale fingers. “Lucien, I don’t know this person.”
Kimberly panicked instantly. “Kaia, why are you making things up!”
Just as Lucien coldly summoned two waiters to throw Kimberly

out, Lauren arrived fashionably late. She had no idea what was happening but promised her mother she’d look out for Kimberly a little, so she spoke up carefully. “Lucien, Calvin, what’s going on here?”
Kaia’s eyebrows lifted almost imperceptibly when she called out Lucien’s name.
Lucien’s expression darkened. “Do we know each other?”
Lauren had met Lucien at least twice before. Even though they’d never spoken directly, they’d been at the same events, so they weren’t complete strangers. When she spotted the gorgeous woman next to Lucien,
e instinctively called his name.
Being shot down so publicly left her face flushed with embarrassment. She turned to Calvin with a slightly hurt expression. “Did Kimberly do something to upset you guys?”
Calvin was honestly sick of Lauren. Every time she looked at him with those overly emotional eyes, it gave him the creeps. And that sickeningly sweet voice of hers was more than he could handle. But Lauren’s mother was his mom’s best friend, so he grudgingly gave her some consideration. “You brought her here?”
Lauren’s heart sank, though her face remained composed with a faint smile. “Yeah, I did.”

time.”
Lucien shot him a cold, sideways glance that seemed to ask, “What makes you think you have any pull with me?”
Calvin knew this man could be ruthless when he wanted to be and wouldn’t spare anyone, so he turned to Kaia instead. “Ms. Domont, my company needs a legal advisor. Interested in the position?”
Kaia looked surprised. “Mr. Barnes, that’s very kind of you. Of course.”
Lucien scoffed quietly. At least the guy knew when to back down.
He patted Kaia’s hand gently. “Come on, let me get you something to eat.”
Since he’d already paid the compensation, Lucien couldn’t care less what happened to Kimberly now.
Kaia winked at Kayla before following Lucien away.
Calvin shot Lauren an impatient look. “Keep your people in line, or there won’t be a next time.”
With that, Calvin wrapped his arm around Kayla and strolled away leisurely.

Lauren dug her nails into her palms, consumed by jealousy as she watched that arm around another woman’s slender waist. The sight drove her absolutely mad.
Kimberly’s eyes burned with the same jealous fury.
How could Kaia be so damn lucky? She’d already broken off her engagement with Alden, yet somehow managed to snag an even better catch–someone way more potent than Alden!
Cold calculation flickered in her eyes.
Don’t get too comfortable, Kaia. It’s still uncertain who will win or lose.
