Before Charles could say anything, his phone rang. It was Richard.

Charles ended the call without another word. After putting his phone away, he turned to Teresa and said, Once the divorce agreement is ready. I’ll contact you so you can come by and sign it.”

Teresa knew that a divorce couldn’t be rushed, especially with a family like Charles’s and the fact that they had a child. There was just too much to sort out. So, she agreed, saying, Okay.

Seeing her agree, Charles said, Alright, let’s go to Logan Manor and have dinner.

He started the car and drove off. The two of them remained silent during the drive.

Teresa thought about Richard and wasn’t sure what to do. Most people would be okay with the divorce, but Richard was differenthe genuinely wanted Teresa and Charles to stay together.

They only got married in the first place because Richard pushed them to. Back then, Teresa had been grateful to him and treated him well, and Richard had always been kind to her.

But now, with the divorce on the table, she wasn’t sure how to face him.

As they waited at a red light, Teresa glanced at Charles. He was handsome, the kind of face that turned heads everywhere. Back then, Teresa had given up everything for that face, pouring all her love into him. But now, her heart was completely calm.

Looking at Charles, Teresa asked, So what are you going to tell Richard about all this?

Charles looked over at her and answered honestly, I don’t know, but he won’t agree to the divorce.

He didn’t know when it started, but Teresa’s gaze toward him had grown so cold.

After thinking it over, Teresa said, Let’s keep it under wraps for now. Once the divorce formalities are done, you can break it to him little by little.

Charles was stunned for a moment, then finally nodded. Okay.”

When they arrived at Logan Manor, Susan was waiting at the door to greet them.

Charles got out of the car and didn’t open the door for Teresa, instead heading straight for the trunk. As she got out, he was closing the trunk, carrying a large box that looked like a cake.

When they walked into the living room, Teresa noticed Zack, Roselyn, and Andrew were there, but Serena wasn’t back yet.

Roselyn, usually quick to make suide remarks, was unusually quiet tonight. She didn’t say anything and just ate in silence. Teresa found it odd, but didn’t ask any questions.

Once dinner started, Richard told Charles, Charles, help Teresa with some food

Charles nodded. Got it, GrandpaHe added a chicken leg and some ribs to Teresa’s plate.

Looking at the food piled up on her plate, Teresa said softly, Thanks

Andrew, siung right across from Teresa, scoffed, What an act

Teresa just let out a quiet laugh, unbothered.

The meal went by pracefully, thanks to Roselyn’s silence

After dinner. Susan cleared the table. Charles instructed her to bring the cake to the table and light the candles before turning off the lights

Chapter 122

Richard, sitting at the head of the table, ordered Andrew, who was sitting in the corner, Andrew, get up and sing Happy Birthday to Teresa.

Andrew, who had been on his phone, scoffed, Grandpa, she’s not a little kid anymore. Why bother with the birthday song?

Richard, clearly frustrated, replied, Fine, I’ll sing it myself then.” He cleared his throat and began to sing loudly.

Zack and Roselyn were ignoring each other, clearly in a fight, and Richard didn’t bother to get them involved.

Charles sat next to Teresa, his head down as he texted someone. Teresa assumed it was Naomi but didn’t ask.

As for Andrew, after refusing Richard’s request, he just went back to playing on his phone.

At the table, Richard was the only one who genuinely seemed to want to wish Teresa a happy birthday.

Teresa felt a twinge of sadness in her heart as she watched him. Everyone at this table had been people she once tried so hard to please. But except for Richard, no one had ever truly appreciated her efforts.

Seeing Richard’s embarrassment, Teresa softly said, Richard, I appreciate your gesture. You don’t need to sing. Next time, when it’s your birthday, I’ll sing for you.

Richard’s eyes reddened, and his voice cracked as he said, Alright, let’s just cut the cake.

Teresa knew he was feeling sad for her, but she smiled and said, Sure, I’ll give you the first piece. She cut the cake and handed Richard the first slice. He slowly took it and ate it, savoring every bite.

Teresa looked around, but everyone else was preoccupied with their own things. No one seemed to care it was her birthday.

After serving Richard, she cut herself a slice but didn’t offer any to the others.

As she sat down to eat, Charles finally put his phone away and turned to her, saying softly, Happy Birthday.

The cake was sweet, but her heart felt bitter. She smiled politely and said, Thank you.
