When Charles mentioned going home with him, his expression was serious–there wasn’t even a hint of teasing in his eyes–so Teresa didn’t overthink it.
So, she simply replied with a hint of resistance, “Joyacre Villa and Brocade Villa are your homes, not mine. I’m not going back with you.”
Seeing Teresa’s refusal, Charles’s face darkened. He lowered his voice and said, “Don’t forget what I told you before.”
Teresa blinked, momentarily confused, and asked Charles, “What did you say?”
Just then, the light switched to green.
The street was packed with cars, and Charles’s ride crawled along, hemmed in by the traffic.
Teresa fixed her gaze on Charles’s profile, confusion flickering in her eyes, as she heard him say in a chillingly calm tone, “We’re doing this again.”
Honestly, even if Charles hadn’t brought it up, Teresa would have remembered those things herself.
But given how serious he had looked just now, she really didn’t expect him to mention that.
Besides, there really wasn’t any reason for them to do it again.
She just hadn’t expected him to actually say it out loud.
Once Teresa figured out what Charles was after, she suddenly didn’t care anymore about who had spilled the news about Wendy Stone.
Charles only knew because he simply had the ability to find out.
But if someone else had spread it, with Wendy Stone’s kind of influence, it would’ve at least hit the trending searches.
Yet, the trending lists were completely silent when it came to Wendy Stone.
Once she had sorted it all out in her head, Teresa finally managed to calm down. She turned to Charles and said, “You’re driving, so I’m not going to argue with you. The only reason we’re even in the same car tonight is because of Yolanda.”
With that, she fell silent.
Charles, on the other hand, kept stealing glances at Teresa.
He couldn’t shake the feeling that she had changed.
Teresa kept her eyes glued to her phone, but Troy still hadn’t replied. She just sent him a “?” in the chat.
When Troy still didn’t text back, Teresa finally explained to him in a message: “About what I said to you before–I only said that because things were so hectic at the time. Please don’t take it to heart. Hope you can forgive me.”
Meanwhile, Troy’s car was still parked, not budging an inch. He saw Teresa’s “?” pop up on his screen, but he just couldn’t bring himself to reply.
Then–another text came through from her.
Troy straightened up and glanced at his phone. This time, he saw Teresa’s explanation
As he read her words, all the gloom that had been weighing on hiur just melted away.
Troy was so happy he almost bounced out of his seat, but his head slammed right into the roof of the car, making him grimace and yelp in pain
As soon as the sting faded, he shot off a reply to Teresa with a goofy grin: “I know, I’ve known for a while. Ljust got jealous seeing you treat Charles so well–so I guess that’s why I acted all grumpy
The moment Teresa saw Troy’s reply, her heart finally settled down
She texted back “I wasn’t trying to be nice to him. There’s no way for us to go back to how things used to be between us. I know we’ll end up getting divorced eventually.”

Troy started humming a tune as he read her reply, feeling on top of the world. He shot back: “I get it. No hard feelings.”
Teresa just sent a short “Mm.”
Seeing her quick reply. Troy didn’t overthink it and messaged again: “And don’t you let him lay a hand on you.”
Teresa let out a small laugh and texted back: “Mm.”
Troy: “And he can’t even get close. You need to keep at least a couple of meters between you two.”
Charles was driving, and Teresa didn’t dare keep her head down texting. She was worried he might start asking questions.
So, she kept her replies short and sweet: “Mm.”

Troy still wasn’t satisfied. He kept texting her: “No way, you have to swear to me–the kind where you say ‘If I lie to you, I’m a puppy‘
Teresa replied, “Okay, okay.”
Troy insisted: “Nope! You have to say the whole thing. Promise me–if you ever lie to me, you’ll turn into a puppy.”
Teresa couldn’t win against him, so she gave in and typed it out in the chat.
But before she could finish typing, the car came to a stop.
Charles turned to her and said, “We’re here.”
As soon as Teresa heard Charles’s voice, she quickly shoved her phone out of sight.
The way she tried to cover it up made it crystal clear she was hiding something.
But Charles didn’t say anything.
Teresa unbuckled her seatbelt and got out of the car.
She didn’t wait for Charles–without so much as a backward glance, she strode off toward the hospital on her own.
But she’d barely taken a couple of steps when Charles called after her, “Teresa.”
Teresa stopped in her tracks and turned around, meeting Charles’s gaze head–on. She asked, her voice intent, “What’s up?”
Charles stepped out of the car, his trench coat left open, exuding effortless charm and magnetism.
He strode toward Teresa, the wind ruffling the edge of his coat, the plain shirt underneath highlighting his lean frame.
But now, not a single improper thought about him crossed Teresa’s mind.
Once Charles drew near, he bent slightly toward her, his gaze intense and sincere. “Do you think… is there any chance for us to go back to how things used to be?”
His words caught Teresa completely off guard.
She stood there, stunned, her mind drawing a total blank for a long moment.
She didn’t get what he was trying to say, and she certainly couldn’t tell what he meant by that.
So she just kept quiet, choosing not to answer.
After a pause, she just asked, “Aren’t we going in to see Yolanda?”
Charles looked a little stunned himself–honestly, he had no idea why those words even came out of his mouth.
Once he regained his composure, he turned to Teresa and said, “Yeah, let’s go in together”
The whole walk, Teresa couldn’t help feeling anxious, her mind spinning with guesses about what Charles was actually thinking
What did he really mean when he said all that?
No matter how much she tried to puzzle it out, she just couldn’t crack what he was getting at
