Chapter 147

Teresa froze for a moment when she heard Yolanda call her “Mommy“. ‘I haven’t heard her say that in so long, Teresa thought, her body stiffening.
But she composed herself and forced a smile. Teresa said, “It’s okay. Don’t worry about it.” She finished speaking with a calm demeanor, then prepared to leave.
Yolanda’s words made Charles look over.
He turned his head and saw blood seeping from Teresa’s arm.
“Come here. Let me see,” Charles said without thinking, his voice all authority, like he was giving orders.
Teresa glanced at him and said casually, “It’s nothing serious.”
As soon as she finished, Charles was already on his feet, reaching for her arm.
Teresa was caught off guard and struggled to yank her arm free, but Charles’s grip was iron–tight. There was no way she could break loose.
As Charles moved closer, Teresa instinctively stepped back, but before she could even react, he swept her off her feet and carried her in his arms, right in front of everyone.
Teresa shot him a mocking look and scoffed, “Charles, put me down. What the hell are you doing?”
Charles kept his face cold and strode off the lawn without saying a word.
As he walked, he called out to Sharon, “Sharon, keep an eye on Yolanda and Monica.”
Sharon called out anxiously from behind, “Yes, Mr. Logan.”
Monica heard Teresa scream and turned to look, but just as she tried to rush out, Zane Peterson grabbed her hand and said, “Monica, there’s no way you’ll catch up.”
Off to the side, Troy saw everything. Clutching a paintbrush in his hand, he snapped it in half in a fit of rage when he saw Teresa being carried away.
After breaking the paintbrush, he tossed it aside, his expression turning grim. The moment he stood up, he gave the lawn a vicious kick. A clump of grass and dirt went flying.
Peyton saw everything but kept his mouth shut.
Teresa squirmed in Charles’s arms, trying to break free, but his hands were like steel clamps. She couldn’t move an inch.
She only managed to land a kick on him when he shoved her into the car.
Charles kept his face icy, but didn’t blow up. He leaned over, locked the car doors, and then grabbed the first–aid kit from the back seat.
After popping open the kit, he reached out and tugged at Teresa’s sleeve.
Teresa knew it was pointless to argue, so she pushed his hand away and said, “I’ll do it myself.”
Charles let go, but kept his eyes glued to her. He sounded a bit annoyed as he said, “You’re a doctor. What if it gets infected because you didn’t take care of it right away?”
Teresa took off her coat and rolled up her sleeve, snapping, “If it gets infected, I’ll just die. Why the fake concern?”
Charles was stumped by her words. He looked away and stopped paying attention to her.
It didn’t take long for Teresa to finish treating the wound.
As she packed up the first–aid kit, Charles couldn’t help but steal another glance at her. He noticed she was still wearing the bracelet Troy had given her on her left wrist.

His expression darkened, and his voice dropped to a low growl. “Troy gave that bracelet to you, didn’t he?”
He already knew the answer, but he asked anyway.
Teresa snapped the first–aid kit shut and said coldly, “None of your business.”
Suddenly, Charles reached out and grabbed her hand, the one with the bracelet, lifting it up between them as if it were a barrier.
His gaze was chilling as he looked at her, his voice cold as ice. “I told you, I don’t like you getting close to him.”
Teresa laughed, unflinching as she met his eyes. She shot back in the same icy tone, “Well, I don’t like you getting close to Naomi either.”
Charles let go of her hand and turned his face away, saying, “That’s different.”
Teresa chuckled and said, “Open the door. I’m getting out.”
Charles didn’t open the door. Instead, he turned back to her and said, “As long as we haven’t gotten divorced, you’ll remain my wife.”
Teresa found it almost funny and scoffed, “Am I really your wife?”
Charles’s face stayed blank, no hint of emotion. He shot back coolly, “Does it matter? You’ve been with me for five years anyway.”
Those words hit Teresa like a needle straight to the heart.
She snorted, a bitter smile on her lips. “You think I still care?”
This time, Charles was the one left speechless.
Seeing him stay quiet, Teresa didn’t want to argue anymore. She just brought it up, “You’re Yolanda’s dad. I hope you’ll take her studies seriously.”
Charles lifted his eyes, sarcasm dripping from his gaze. “You’ve got time for other people’s kids, but you can’t spare a minute for your own?”
Teresa actually found his words funny.
How Yolanda treated her and how Monica treated her–Charles might not know, but Teresa was perfectly clear about it.
She wasn’t about to waste her breath explaining or arguing with him.
After a moment, she spoke in a steady voice. “Charles, talking won’t change anything. I just want to know when we are going to file for divorce and start the cooling–off period at the local court.”
Charles’s tone matched hers, calm and unyielding. “I already told you. Before we get divorced, we’re sleeping together one last time.”
Teresa couldn’t take it anymore and snapped, “You’re shameless.”
Charles grabbed her hand and pulled her straight into his arms. She quickly crossed her uninjured arm over her chest, putting a barrier between them.
He lowered his gaze, sizing her up before leaning in, his breath scorching hot as it brushed over her skin.
She shoved back with all her strength, desperate to break free from his hold. But up against him, she was completely powerless.
Charles leaned in, pressing his forehead to hers, his voice dropping to a teasing whisper. “How about we try it right now?”
Teresa shot him a furious glare, her eyes blazing with anger.
Charles just laughed, teasing her. “With all these people around, do you wanna see how it feels?”
Teresa couldn’t take it anymore. She raised her hand and slapped him hard across the face.
His jaw was rock–hard, and the slap barely made him flinch. Instead, her own hand stung from the impact.
Charles’s head snapped to the side, his eyes closing for a moment. When he looked back, his gaze was cold and dangerous.
