Chapter 187
Sharon had breakfast ready and arrived at the hospital right on time–9:20 a.m.–by taxi.
>
It was a typical workday, traffic was awful, and she was a bundle of nerves rushing over, scared that Yolanda might be starving without anything to eat.
Earlier that morning, Charles had called and told Sharon to get breakfast set and bring it over at her own pace. Sharon asked, “Mr. Logan, you’re heading to the office, and Ms. Yates is off to the lab. So who’s staying with Miss Yolanda?”
Charles replied, “Yoyo’s mother will be there.”
Once Sharon heard that Mrs. Logan was coming, she finally felt a little relieved.
She’d put a lot of care into Yolanda’s breakfast, making everything especially nice, so it took her a bit longer than usual.
After getting out of the taxi, she hurried anxiously through the hospital with the food box, and when she finally made it to the room, it was already 9:30.
But when she walked in, neither Teresa nor Yolanda were there.
She set the food box on the bedside table and then went to the nurse’s station to politely ask where Yolanda had gone.
The nurse, hearing Yolanda’s name, hurried to explain, “Yolanda had a dangerously high fever and lost consciousness, She’s been rushed to the emergency room.”
Sharon was completely stunned, tears streaming down her face.

She was so panicked and lost, she had no idea what to do.
After the nurse called her name twice, she finally snapped out of it and said, “Right, I need to call Mr. Logan and Mrs. Logan.” hurried to make the calls.

Charles was in the middle of a meeting with his phone set to silent, but the caller ID still flashed on the conference room screen.
Seeing Sharon’s name, he had a sinking feeling–something must have happened to Yolanda. He immediately halted the meeting and stepped outside to answer.
As soon as he picked up, Sharon’s trembling, tearful voice came through: “Mr. Logan, it’s bad… Miss Yolanda just got sent to the emergency room.”
It was like a giant hand suddenly squeezed Charles’s heart tight. Before his mind could catch up, his legs were already moving.
He didn’t say another word–just took off with long, determined strides straight to the executive elevator.
As he pressed the button to go down, it was only then that he managed to find his voice. “I know, I’m coming right now.”
After hanging up, he stared at the descending elevator numbers, his thoughts in utter chaos.
He couldn’t help thinking, ‘What if I don’t get there in time? What if something happens to Yolanda…
Regret flooded him–he should’ve listened to Teresa, he shouldn’t have brought Yolanda to the hospital.
By the time Charles reached the parking lot, his hands were shaking so badly he barely managed to fit the key into the ignition.
He couldn’t even remember how he got the car to the hospital–his heart was like an eternity.

Thank God–it wasn’t Sharon.
When he finally got to the hospital, Sharon was pacing back and forth outside the emergency room, her face pale and drawn.
As soon as she saw Charles, she stopped and looked at him, her voice trembling. “Mr. Logan, you’re here.”

Charles’s eyes were bloodshot, his voice hoarse. “How’s Yolanda?”
Sharon shook her head, tears welling up. “No doctor has come out yet. I don’t know anything.”
Charles closed his eyes, clenching his jaw so hard it hurt.
His mind was all over the place, his heart racing in his chest.

He sat down on the bench, hunched over, pressing his hands to his forehead as he silently prayed for his daughter to be safe.
Seeing Charles like that, Sharon opened her mouth, wanting to say something, but swallowed the words before they left her lips.
She figured with Yolanda’s condition still unclear, it was best to keep quiet.
Several minutes passed before Charles suddenly looked up and asked, “Where’s Teresa?”
Sharon turned to him and shook her head. “When I arrived, Yoyo’s mother wasn’t here. I don’t know where she went.”
Hearing that, Charles’s brows knit together in concern.
He pulled out his phone for a quick check. He’d sent a message to Ms. Sullivan, telling her to come to the hospital and stay with Yolanda
-but there was still no reply from her.
Even though Teresa hadn’t replied, Charles just couldn’t believe she’d ever ignore their daughter’s life or death.
He figured maybe she was tied up with something urgent and had to step out for a bit.
But after waiting more than ten minutes, there was still no sign of Teresa.
In the end, Charles decided to give her a call.
The call connected, but no one picked up.
He tried a few more times, but still, no answer.

The doctor, glasses slipping down his nose, pulled off his mask and told Charles, “It’s nothing serious now. She’ll have to spend the night in the pediatric ICU, though. Once her condition is stable, she can be transferred to a regular ward.”
Charles let out a long, shaky breath, feeling the tight knot in his chest finally loose.
The doctor caught the look of relief on his face, but couldn’t help snapping at him: “Yolanda’s only five years old! As parents, you need to be more responsible. How could you let her be here all alone?”
Charles furrowed his brow, sounding a bit defensive. “Wasn’t her mom supposed to be here?”
The doctor cut him off, voice harsher. “If her mom had actually been present, none of this would have happened.
Charles’s face froze as it finally hit Teresa hadn’t come at all.
The doctor kept talking, but his words barely registered; Charles couldn’t hear a thing.
Right now, all Charles wanted to know was why hadn’t Teresa shown up?
A wildfire of anger burned inside him, and he kept calling over and over.
But every single time—no one picked up.
This time, Charles knew for sure–there was no way Teresa hadn’t seen his calls; she was flat–out–refusing to answer.
By pretending not to see his messages and ignoring his calls, she’d nearly let their daughter land in real danger.
Thankfully, Yolanda was safe. But if anything had happened to her….
