Teresa was dabbing at Troy’s wound with a tissue when she heard his question. Her hand paused for just a moment, almost too subtle to

notice.

After a brief silence, she finally said, We’re from two different worlds.

With her head bowed, her long lashes cast a shadow across her face. She didn’t smileher tone was deadly serious.

Troy felt a sting in his chest. Dropping his voice, he asked, heavy and hurt, Teresa, I’ve been reaching out to you, taking step after step your way. Why won’t you take even one step toward me? Why is it always just me?

Teresa kept pressing a tissue to Troy’s fingers, only then lifting her gaze to meet his. The instant their eyes locked, she saw nothing but deep anger and hurt blazing in his eyes.

She spaced out for a second, but then that scene from the other nightTroy kissing Naomicrashed back into her mind out of nowhere.

Her expression froze, and her tone turned frigid. You have your life, and I have mine.”

Troy was sick of this excuse. He’d heard her say it a hundred times already, and it grated on his nerves.

But back at the hospital, she sure wasn’t acting like this,Troy thought, unable to shake the difference.

She let me hold her all nightthere’s no nothing.

Troy’s temper snapped. He seized her arm, hauling her in close, his eyes locked on hers as he gritted out, You’re lying to me!

Teresa winced, her brows knitting in pain. Troy, let go of me.

Troy just couldn’t understand how she’d changed so much. Dropping his voice, he pressed on, Tell me, what did I do wrong? If it’s my fault, I’ll fix it. Just tell me, okay?

Teresa stared right back at him. No, you haven’t done anything wrong. Not thing.

Troy’s grip on her arm slackened a bit, a look of disbelief crossing his face. He asked, So,

Teresa tried to wrestle her armfree, but no matter how much she twisted, she just couldn’t break loose.

still have feelings for Charles, don’t you?

Giving up, she met his gaze and said, ice in her voice, I don’t love anyone. I only care about myself. That’s all there is to it.

Her words stabbed right through Troy, leaving him raw. But in his mind, she was just making excusesshe still had a thing for Charles, he was sure of it.

He shoved her arm away, his voice burning with anger. If you don’t want me, then stay out of my life! Even if I drop dead, it has nothing to do with you.

With that, Troy spun on his heel and stormed off without a second thought.

She blurted out, Troy.

Troy froze, a flicker of hope sparking in his chest.

She must’ve been saying all that out of anger. Now she wants to win me back, he thought, his heart racing with anticipation.

But all he got was Teresa’s cold, matteroffact voice. Monica and Zane are innocent. Let’s not take our feelings out on them. When we go back, let’s not make things awkward or fight anymore.

Troy let out a sarcastic snort. That’s all you wanted to say?

Teresa nodded, her voice cold and firm Yes

Before she could say another word, Troy marched right back, grabbed her by the back of the head, and yanked her into his arms. He didn’t care if she wanted it or nothe crashed lus lips down onto tiers, sealing her mouth with his own

Teresa felt herself suffocating, struggling hard and pounding against Troy’s chest, but not a single word could escape her lips.

It wasn’t until Teresa went limp, collapsing against him, that Troy finally let her go.

Even then, his hand stayed gripping the back of her head, his forehead pressed to hers as he swallowed deep, ragged breaths. Teresa, you owe me this,” he said, his voice low and hoarse. I’m just taking back a little of what you owe me.

After that, he slowly eased his hold on her.

But the very next moment, Teresa drew back and slapped him across the face with everything she had.

Troy’s head snapped to the side from the force of it, his face frozen in utter shock. For a second, he just stared, then prodded his cheek with his tongue, as if he couldn’t quite believe she’d actually hit him.

Teresa’s hand fell limply to her side, her fingers trembling so bad she could barely control them.

When feeling finally returned to her fingers, she immediately started scrubbing at her lipshard, rough, desperaterubbing until they were red and even torn, but she just kept going, like she could wipe away what happened.

Troy saw the pure disgust on her face and it felt like someone was stabbing needles straight into his heart, one after another it hurt so much much he could barely breathe.

Teresa glared at him, tears spilling down her cheeks, her voice shaking with rage and heartbreak. Troy, how could you? You’ve got no shame at all! You’re disgusting! Why did you have to kiss me?

She said a whole lot, but to Troy, only one word echoed in his headdisgusting.

He froze, then after a long, bitter pause, he practically barked a laugh. Me, disgusting? Seriously, Teresa? That’s what you think of me? I’ve been surrounded by women, but I’ve never touched a single onenot even once. The only reason I kept myself clean was for you! And now you have the nerve to call me disgusting?

With every word, Troy got more and more worked up, his usually handsome features contorted with pure, explosive rage.

He stared her down, eyes blazing bloodred, looking downright terrifying

as if he could snap any second.

With that, he violently kicked the pile of firewood at his feet, then turned and stormed off without looking back.

Teresa stood rooted to the spot, stunned, struggling to process Troy’s words.

He’s been saving himself for me?Teresa’s thoughts spun, disbelief rising up

Inside.

But with all those tabloid headlines about Troy and other womenand that night at the restaurant, when she’d actually seen him flirting up close with some celebrity actressit was impossible to believe.

Yet here he was, acting like he had done her some great favor, boldly declaring he stayed pure for her.

Fine, forget about that actress, Teresa told herself, bitterness growing. But what about Naomi?

Teresa just couldn’t believe for a second that any of it was realhis claims of innocence, his carefully crafted image, all of it felt like nothing but lies to her.

To her, Troy’s words were emptyshe knew better than to trust a single thing he said.

When Troy got back, Naomi spotted him right away.
