But before leaving, Rose turned back to Teresa and said, “Teresa, I’m heading out now. Once everything here is settled, don’t forget to stop by the hospital and visit me.”
Teresa quickly nodded. “Okay, I’ll come.”
Rose gave her a faint smile. “Alright, I’m off. And remember, you have to come over for New Year’s Day.”
Teresa hesitated. She wanted to say no, but the words just wouldn’t come out.
Rose had gone out of her way to help Teresa–even braving the late–night trip and even changing out of her clothes just for her sake.
Most people wouldn’t have bothered to come at all, especially at such an hour.
Teresa didn’t say no, but she didn’t say yes either.
Rose didn’t press her. She just smiled, waved goodbye to the other two before heading out of Wendy’s place.
Troy followed Rose out, but as they headed for the elevator, he glanced back at Teresa with a lazy grin, raised his eyebrow in that signature smug way, and threw her a cheeky wink.
Teresa watched Troy’s cocky, almost rude smile–he was totally shameless, but for some reason, he actually looked kind of adorable to her. ‘Why do I find him cute?‘ she wondered, a little helplessly.
Even after she looked away, Troy’s roguish, smug grin kept popping up in her mind.
As soon as Troy and Rose left, Wendy stepped out of the bedroom.
As the bedroom door opened, everyone glanced over instinctively.
Wendy had swapped into clean clothes and ran a comb through her hair.
For once, her eyes weren’t filled with fear or worry anymore.”
Wendy stepped up to Peyton, steadied herself, and asked, “Mr. Peterson, could you come with me to the police station? I’d really appreciate it.”
Peyton gave her a reassuring smile. “It’s no trouble at all.”
Leo felt some relief at last, although that anxious look still lingered on his face.
And so, the whole crew set off for the police station together.
Peyton stayed with Wendy while she gave her statement, while Teresa and Leo waited outside.
They sat there for almost an hour before the cops finally finished up.
But then, they said Wendy had to go for a rape kit test.
When they walked out of the police station, Teresa immediately caught sight of Troy leaning casually against the car door.
The moonlight spilled over him, his long coat making him look even taller and more solid. With those striking, chiseled features, he was like something out of an artist’s sketchbook.
As soon as he saw the group, he straightened up, stepping forward–clearly aiming to greet Teresa.
But the moment his eyes landed on Wendy, he halted
Nomaller what, Wendy’s feelings took priority right now
Wendy noticed Troy’s hesitation and didn’t want everyone to have to walk on eggshells because of her.
So she turned to Teresa and said, “Teresa, int Mr. Peterson and Mr. Galbert take me to the hospited Mr Handion probably wants a word with you

Chapter 268
Before Teresa could say anything, Wendy was already heading over to the car.
As Wendy got in, she heard Teresa say, “Wendy, it’s going to be okay. No matter what happens, I’m here for you.”
Wendy gave her a faint smile and nodded. “I know, thanks.”
Teresa shot her a little encouraging fist pump, then said, “When all this blows over, I’ll take you out for a couple drinks.”
Wendy smiled. “Deal.”
With that, Peyton pulled away in the car.
As soon as the car disappeared down the street, Troy couldn’t wait to walk over.
He stopped in front of Teresa, looking down at her with a broad grin.
As he got closer, Teresa caught a whiff of his scent–fresh soap mixed with a hint of tobacco.
It wasn’t overpowering, just subtle enough to be pleasant.
When Troy stayed silent, Teresa tilted her head up to him and said softly, “Thank you.”
Troy stuck his hands in his pockets, looking casual and cool. “Just didn’t want to see you bothered, that’s all.”
Hearing that, Teresa let out a quiet “Mm,” then added, “It’s all taken care of now.”

Troy pretended not to hear her, leaning in until his eyes were right level with hers, flashing her that signature cocky grin. “You saying thank you–do you actually mean it, or is that just talk?”
Teresa almost nodded without thinking, but then stopped herself, second–guessing what kind of mischief Troy had up his sleeve.
Amused by her hesitation, Troy reached out and gave her nose a playful flick. “If you really want to thank me, come watch a movie with me.”
Teresa shot Troy a puzzled look. “You…”
She was sure he was about to try and drag her into keeping some promise again.
But to her surprise, all he asked for was this small thing.
Troy gave her a slight frown and teased, “What, you’re not up for it?”
Teresa shook her head. “No, it’s just… I haven’t been to a movie in forever.”
Troy grinned. “What a coincidence. Me neither.”
Teresa blinked, caught off guard. “Really?”
Troy reached out and gave her earlobe a gentle but slightly punishing tug, just to mess with her.
When he spoke, that familiar lazy, mischievous laughter was layered in his voice. “Yeah.”
Then he leaned down, bringing his warm lips close to Teresa’s ear and grinned, saying softly, “I’ve been waiting all this time for you to come watch with me.”
Troy sounded so sincere, but Teresa couldn’t help rolling her eyes inwardly. Yeah, right, as if she thought
She looked up at him, and teased. “But you know, rumor has it your girls come and go as fast as your shirts–there’s got to be rons lining up to watch movie with you.”
Troy just grinned, totally unfazed. Like you said, that’s just talk”
Teresa blinked and went quiet, not sure how to respond to that.
Troy opened the car door and, with a gentlemanly gesture, shielded the top for her He thashed her a stile ami said. Carin, my princess.”
