Chapter 48
Chapter 48
Troy was always like this–completely carefree, never worrying about what anyone thought.
Even though Teresa was married and had a kid, he still couldn’t help but tease her a little.
Honestly, he’d probably even whistle at any female who happened to walk by.
With a guy like him, can you really take anything he says seriously?
But no matter what people said about Troy, the fact was, he really had helped Teresa out before.
Teresa knew she could never forget that kindness. She shrank into the corner, with Troy looming over her like a mountain.
He might have had the looks of a gentleman, but deep down, he was shameless to the core.
‘Dealing with a guy like this, maybe the only way is to just ignore him,‘ Teresa thought. ‘Maybe then he’ll get bored and give up.’
So she simply closed her eyes, acting like she hadn’t heard a single word Troy said.
The streetlights in the small town were dim, casting a soft glow through the car window that landed perfectly on Teresa’s clean face.
When she closed her eyes, her lashes, thick as a crow’s feathers, quivered, each one trembling with fear.
Troy watched her, and suddenly, a gentle smile bloomed on his face. He raised his hand, wanting to carefully smooth down the fine hairs that stood up on Teresa’s cheek.
But when he thought about how afraid Teresa was of him, he couldn’t help but let out a laugh. ‘Am I really that scary?‘ he wondered.
Troy always knew how to say the sweetest things to women.
If a woman wasn’t pretty, he’d compliment her figure. If her figure wasn’t great, he’d praise her eyes.
If her eyes weren’t much to look at, he’d say her smile was gentle. And if she didn’t smile at all, he’d call her a cold beauty.
All the women out there said he was handsome, witty, and charming. But Teresa was the first woman who was actually scared of him.
Thinking all this, Troy pulled himself upright, keeping his hands to himself and resisting the urge to reach for Teresa.
But just then, a figure darted past the car, and the passenger door swung open. “Teresa, get

out of the car with him.
She hadn’t planned on getting into Troy’s car; it was just that he’d complained about all the mosquitoes out here in the town and said they should talk inside instead.
So Teresa ended up climbing in, not really thinking much of it.
But the moment she did, she realized she’d totally played right into Troy’s hands.
Once Teresa was out of the car, Hector stepped protectively in front of her, his face cold and hard as he shot Troy a glare. “You dress all high and mighty, but don’t you know forcing someone is against the law?”
Troy rested his hands lazily on the steering wheel, raising an eyebrow with a relaxed smirk. “Are you insulting me?”
Hector didn’t hesitate. “Yeah.”
Troy wasn’t bothered at all. Instead, he let out a soft laugh, his smile all clean–cut charm. “Thinking about hitting me, huh?”
Bectar replied without missing a beat. “Yeah”
Troy pulled his hands back from the steering wheel, leaning in a little closer as he continued, “Just think about it, but don’t actually do it

serious, not a trace of insincerity in his voice.
Hector had no interest in getting into a pissing match with Troy. As long as Teresa was safe, that was all he cared about.
But from the way Troy talked, Hector could pick up on the real reason behind it all.
Teresa must have talked to Troy about him getting fired from the hospital–for his sake.
Hector knew Teresa was worried about him, but he didn’t want her to humble herself just for his sake. So he took her hand and said, “I need to talk to you.”
Teresa didn’t hesitate; she simply fell into step beside Hector, following his lead.
Meanwhile, Troy watched Teresa turn away, his eyes narrowing slightly as the smirk on his face deepened. “Hey, baby, if you ever make up your mind, don’t forget to call me. I promise I’ll be there in a heartbeat.”
With that, he let out a loud laugh, sticking his head out the window to add, “Baby, the way you closed your eyes, waiting for me to kiss you? You were just adorable.”
Teresa hurried after Hector, her back damp with sweat as Troy’s wild, arrogant laughter echoed behind her. It wasn’t until they rounded the corner that Troy’s voice finally faded away.
Hector stopped walking, turning to look at Teresa. “Teresa, do you not trust me?”
He’d said it more than once; Jason and the others would be begging him to come back to the hospital. But it seemed like Teresa hadn’t really taken his words to heart.
Teresa caught disappointment in Hector’s eyes, and with worry in her voice, she said, “No, it’s not that. But this whole mess started because of me, so I wanted to-”
Before she could finish, Hector gently took her by the arms, looking at her with that same serious expression. “Teresa, just trust me this time, okay? I can handle it.”
With Hector saying that, Teresa let the rest of her words go unsaid. She looked up at him with a smile. “Alright, I trust you.”
Hector’s lips curved into a smile. “It won’t be long.”
Teresa nodded, feeling a wave of relief wash over her.
Hector didn’t come from some influential background; he’d gotten to where he was by studying hard and grinding every step of the
way.
Teresa honestly had no idea how he was going to fix all this, but seeing how sure he was, she couldn’t help but put her faith in him.
At Joyacre Villa, in the study, Charles hung up the phone and stared at it, waiting for it to ring again.
But as the silence stretched on, an inexplicable frustration crept into his chest, and his mood soured.
Thinking back to that soft little noise Teresa had made earlier, he narrowed his eyes.
If Jason’s tip was right, then the man with her right now was none other than Troy. Teresa could be close to anyone she wanted–just not Troy
With that thought, Charles grabbed his phone and dialed Liam. “Track Mrs. Logan’s movements for me,” he said curtly.
Before Liam could even respond, Charles had already hung up.
Liam called back soon after
Charles answered right away, only to hear Liam say. “Mr. Logan, I can’t trac
