Chapter 123
Teresa tried to walk past Charles, but he followed her closely. “Why are you treating me like a stranger?” he asked.
Before Teresa could respond, Andrew’s voice came from behind them. “Charles.”
Charles stopped and turned around. He saw Andrew standing in his pajamas by the bedroom door. Andrew asked, “Has Naomi been having any concerts lately? It’s been ages since I’ve heard her play the piano.”
Charles replied, “She’s focusing on her studies right now. There won’t be any concerts for a while.”
Andrew frowned and teased, “Come on, with your connections, you could easily get Naomi a diploma if you wanted to.”
Seeing Charles caught up with Andrew, Teresa didn’t bother listening to their conversation and simply walked away.
When Teresa pulled up to the party Richard had told her about, it was already ten o’clock at night. Thanks to the invitation from Richard, Teresa got in without a hitch.

Inside, everyone was dressed up, while Teresa arrived in casual clothes. Some people looked her way, but she ignored them, searching for Serena in the crowd.
The banquet hall was lively, filled with stunning men and women. Teresa felt a bit dizzy from all the beautiful faces. Soon, she spotted Serena sitting quietly in a corner. Instead of socializing, Serena was nibbling on snacks.
As Teresa walked over, a short, plain–looking guy was also making his way toward Serena. Before Teresa could reach them, the man already stood behind Serena.
Seeing his shifty eyes and the way he was rubbing his hands together, Teresa instantly knew he was up to something shady. She rushed over and smacked his hand away hard before he could touch Serena.
“What do you think you’re doing?” Teresa snapped, glaring at the man.
Serena stood up when she heard the commotion, then hurried over to Teresa and called out, “Teresa?”
Teresa kept an eye on the man, whose expression had soured, and leaned towards Serena. “Your grandpa was worried about you and asked me to check on you.”
Realizing the man was targeting her, Serena grew nervous and instinctively clung to Teresa’s sleeve, whispering, “Don’t worry, Teresa, I’m okay.”
Teresa glared at the man and snapped, “Get lost.”
The man’s face turned red, but he said nothing. His eyes were filled with a sinister, hungry look as he stared at Teresa.
Teresa felt creeped out by his stare, so she grabbed Serena by the wrist and said, “Let’s step outside and talk.”
Not wanting any more trouble in the banquet hall, they made their way to the backyard. The area was huge, with a swimming pool, a badminton court, swings, and a pavilion.
They sat in the pavilion, and Teresa didn’t know how to start the conversation. After a brief silence, Serena spoke first. “Teresa, did Grandpa send you here to talk to me?” she asked.
Teresa looked into Serena’s clear, innocent eyes and nodded. “Yes.”
Serena gave a gentle smile. “Teresa, I really love medicine. I don’t want to get married.”
Teresa tried to persuade her “But Serena, things are different for you. You’re part of the Logan Family”
Serena didn’t get angry Instead, she looked earnestly at Teresa and said, “When you had Yolanda, you were at death’s door. I want to study medicine so that no woman ever has to face that kind of danger again.”
Her words made Teresa pause and reflect. She remembered her own experience and realized how much Serena’s words resonated with her past
Once upon a time, Teresa had dreamed of becoming an excellent general surgeon. But now, she was just starting out as a pediatric surgeon, not even qualified to perform surgeries,

As she turned, Troy couldn’t help but laugh at how jumpy she looked. “Why are you always so tense?”
He knew she’d just been crying, but Troy didn’t say a word about it. Instead, he just kept teasing her. He just wanted
Teresa tilted her head up at Troy, curiosity in her eyes. “How do you always show up out of nowhere?”
Troy grinned and pulled out a handkerchief, gently wiping the tears from her eyes. “When one cares about eyes everywhere, always watching the person they care about.”

Teresa rolled her eyes. Clearly, she wasn’t buying any of it. She stood up from the bench and took a step back. “It’s getting late. I should head back.”
She turned to leave, but Troy quickly grabbed her arm and pulled her back into his embrace.
No matter how much Teresa struggled, Troy easily held her close. His right arm wrapped around her waist, and his left hand guided her hand to his stomach.
He slipped her hand under his shirt, pressing it against his abs, and looked down at her with a teasing smile. “Can you feel it?”
She didn’t feel anything except the hard, defined lines of his abs. Teresa tried to yank her hand away, but Troy just held it there, pressing her palm even firmer against his stomach.
Sweat broke out on her skin as she struggled and said, “Troy, let me go!”
Troy lowered his head, his gaze unrelenting as he stared at Teresa. All he could see on her face was panic and anxiety. He kept his eyes fixed on her, and suddenly his voice grew dejected. “You really did forget, didn’t you? Teresa, you liar.”
With that, he released her hand and her waist. As Teresa pulled away from him, her phone rang, distracting her from the conversation.
