Teresa’s distance made Charles think back to how she used to act around him. Every time they met, she treasured every moment.
Teresa would hold him tight, refusing to let go, and never seemed to get tired of asking him what he wanted to eat, always ready to cook for him herself.
Whenever they stayed at Logan Manor, Teresa curled up in his arms like a cat, craving his attention.
But now, she’d turned into a hedgehog, closing herself off and not letting anyone get close.
There was no sign left of the Teresa who used to love him so much; it
was like she’d vanished without a trace.
Charles didn’t reply to Teresa. He just stared up at the ceiling, zoning out. But in the silence, his phone’s shrill ringtone suddenly cut through the air. It was Naomi calling.

When he picked up, Naomi sounded anxious. “Charles, Yolanda’s been sick again; she’s throwing up and saying her stomach hurts. Can you come home?”
Charles sprang up from bed. “Okay, I’ll be right there.”
After hanging up, he flicked on the light. He got out of bed, threw on some clothes and shoes, then glanced back–Teresa was still lying on the couch, not even stirring.

He was stunned for a second.

Not caring about him was one thing, but now, even hearing their daughter was sick didn’t get a reaction out of her.

After hesitating for a few seconds, Charles walked over to the couch. Looking down at the back of Teresa’s head, he asked gently, “Naomi said Yolanda’s not feeling well. Do you want to come home with me?”
Teresa didn’t turn around, and she replied crisply, “I’m not going. You go ahead.”
”
Before Charles could say anything else, Teresa sat up on the couch.
Seeing her move, Charles thought she must still be worried about Yolanda. Even if she said she wasn’t going, she still seemed to care.
He thought she was about to get up and get dressed, but instead, she just leaned back on the couch and looked at him. “At her age, swollen lymph nodes can make her stomach hurt.
“When you get back, make sure she takes her medicine, and keep an eye on her diet. No snacks, and avoid anything spicy for now.”
Charles stayed quiet for a moment before finally asking, “If you care about her that much, why not go see her?”
Teresa let out a small, almost indifferent smile. “I have work tomorrow, so I’ll stay here.”
Charles could sense how distant she was, but he didn’t press her any further. He just said, “Okay.
Then he turned and walked out.
Teresa lay back on the couch, and any trace of sleep vanished instantly.
Of course, she was worried. But half an hour later, she finally drifted off, a little more at ease.
When Charles got back to Brocade Villa, every light in the house was on. Sharon was busy in the kitchen, probably cooking something for Yolanda
As Charles headed upstairs, he saw Naoini holding Yolanda, gently comforting her.
Maybe because she didn’t have much experience, Naomi was sweating bullets, clearly stressed out.
Charles walked into the room and took Yolanda from Naomi’s arms.
Naotni finally able to catch her breath, said to Charles, Ill go downstairs and bring up some soup for Yolanda.”

Charles nodded. “Go on.”
After Naomi left, Charles started pacing the room with Yolanda in his arms. Upon seeing his daughter’s little face so pale and hurting, his heart just twisted up inside.
Yolanda pressed her face against Charles’s chest and asked in a hoarse little voice, “Daddy, is Mommy not coming home?”
Even though Yolanda usually didn’t like her mom, when she was sick, she still wanted her mom to be there.
Hearing Yolanda ask about her mom made Charles feel even worse. He just murmured, “Yes.”
Seeing her so happy, Charles couldn’t help but bring up something heavy. “Yolanda, we need to
without Mommy, okay?” Yolanda kicked her little legs and shrugged. “I’m already used to it. I just miss Mommy when I’m not feeling well, but Daddy, if you’re with me, then I don’t miss her at all.”
“Okay. You’re so sweet, Daddy,” Yolanda smiled happily. She hugged Charles’s neck tightly, but her heart felt a little sour.
But Yolanda told herself, ‘It’s fine. As long as Daddy and Miss Naomi were here, that’s enough.
Teresa frowned. “Is Serena back?”
Teresa asked again, “And what about Mr. Logan?”
But Teresa couldn’t be bothered with any of that drama. After getting ready, she headed downstairs.

Chapter 125
When Teresa got there, Roselyn was sitting on the couch, fuming, with a nasty scowl on her
fac
At the sound of footsteps, Roselyn glanced up, and when she saw Teresa, her face soured even more.
Teresa didn’t even glance at her, just headed straight for the front hall.
Teresa had work to get to and didn’t have time to worry about anyone else.
Especially not her mother–in–law, Roselyn, who never cared about anything Teresa did for her.
Roselyn got even more pissed when Teresa ignored her and barked, “Stop right there.”
Teresa didn’t even flinch, just kept going like she hadn’t heard a thing.
”
But just as she was about to step out of the front hall, a strong body physically stopped her, forcing her back inside.
Andrew stepped out of the shadows, his face finally coming into view.
He forced Teresa back into the hall, his voice low and harsh. “Teresa, what did you say to my sister?“______
Teresa shot him a cold look. “That’s not for you to know.”

Andrew’s temper flared, his words sharp. “My sister is a Logan; she’s nothing like you. She has a future worth protecting. If you want to slave away as a doctor, go ahead. But my sister won’t end up like that.”
