But before leaving, Rose turned back to Teresa and said, “Teresa, I’m heading out now. Once everything here is settled, don’t forget to stop by the hospital and visit me.”

Teresa quickly nodded. “Okay, I’ll come.”

Rose gave her a faint smile. “Alright, I’m off. And remember, you have to come over for New Year’s Day.”

Teresa hesitated. She wanted to say no, but the words just wouldn’t come out.

Rose had gone out of her way to help Teresa–even braving the late–night trip and even changing out of her clothes just for her sake.

Most people wouldn’t have bothered to come at all, especially at such an hour.

Teresa didn’t say no, but she didn’t say yes either.

Rose didn’t press her. She just smiled, waved goodbye to the other two before heading out of Wendy’s place.

Troy followed Rose out, but as they headed for the elevator, he glanced back at Teresa with a lazy grin, raised his eyebrow in that signature smug way, and threw her a cheeky wink.

Teresa watched Troy’s cocky, almost rude smile–he was totally shameless, but for some reason, he actually looked kind of adorable to her. ‘Why do I find him cute?‘ she wondered, a little helplessly.

Even after she looked away, Troy’s roguish, smug grin kept popping up in her mind.

As soon as Troy and Rose left, Wendy stepped out of the bedroom.

As the bedroom door opened, everyone glanced over instinctively.

Wendy had swapped into clean clothes and ran a comb through her hair.

For once, her eyes weren’t filled with fear or worry anymore.”

Wendy stepped up to Peyton, steadied herself, and asked, “Mr. Peterson, could you come with me to the police station? I’d really appreciate it.”

Peyton gave her a reassuring smile. “It’s no trouble at all.”

Leo felt some relief at last, although that anxious look still lingered on his face.

And so, the whole crew set off for the police station together.

Peyton stayed with Wendy while she gave her statement, while Teresa and Leo waited outside.

They sat there for almost an hour before the cops finally finished up.

But then, they said Wendy had to go for a rape kit test.

When they walked out of the police station, Teresa immediately caught sight of Troy leaning casually against the car door.

The moonlight spilled over him, his long coat making him look even taller and more solid. With those striking, chiseled features, he was like something out of an artist’s sketchbook.

As soon as he saw the group, he straightened up, stepping forward–clearly aiming to greet Teresa.

But the moment his eyes landed on Wendy, he halted

Nomaller what, Wendy’s feelings took priority right now

Wendy noticed Troy’s hesitation and didn’t want everyone to have to walk on eggshells because of her.

So she turned to Teresa and said, “Teresa, int Mr. Peterson and Mr. Galbert take me to the hospited Mr Handion probably wants a word with you

Chapter 268

Before Teresa could say anything, Wendy was already heading over to the car.

As Wendy got in, she heard Teresa say, “Wendy, it’s going to be okay. No matter what happens, I’m here for you.”

Wendy gave her a faint smile and nodded. “I know, thanks.”

Teresa shot her a little encouraging fist pump, then said, “When all this blows over, I’ll take you out for a couple drinks.”

Wendy smiled. “Deal.”

With that, Peyton pulled away in the car.

As soon as the car disappeared down the street, Troy couldn’t wait to walk over.

He stopped in front of Teresa, looking down at her with a broad grin.

As he got closer, Teresa caught a whiff of his scent–fresh soap mixed with a hint of tobacco.

Teresa shot Troy a puzzled look. You…”

But to her surprise, all he asked for was this small thing.

Troy gave her a slight frown and teased, “What, you’re not up for it?”

Then he leaned down, bringing his warm lips close to Teresa’s ear and grinned, saying softly, “I’ve been waiting all this time for you to come watch with me.”

Hearing him call her princess, Teresa could’t help but think. Te probably says that to every girt

Bet Naomi’s heard him say it more times than anyone else.

With that thought, whatever warmth she’d felt just faded away.

As soon as Teresa slid into the seat, Troy leaned in close, gently reaching over to buckle her seatbelt for her.

Once they reached downtown, Troy parked and took Teresa straight to the mall.

He moved through everything like a pro–picked up the tickets, grabbed some popcorn, and ordered them both bubble tea.

With a bit of time to kill before the movie started–over ten minutes left–Troy put the snacks down on a little table and announced he had to snap a few pics.

After taking a few shots of the bubble tea and movie tickets, Troy turned to Teresa with that signature grin. “How about we take a selfie together?”

Teresa felt a little reluctant, but thinking of how Troy had sorted things out for Wendy, she couldn’t help but give in.

She gave him a soft, faint smile. “Alright.”

Troy held up his phone, and the selfie showed the two of them leaning in close, almost shoulder to shoulder.

Teresa gave a gentle smile, a little dimple appearing at the corner of her lips as Troy edged just a bit closer to her.

On that screen, the two looked unexpectedly perfect together–like a couple that just made sense.

Troy kept tapping the shutter button, snapping photo after photo. Then, catching Teresa totally focused on the camera with her sweet smile, he suddenly leaned in and stole a quick kiss on her cheek.

He managed to snap that sweet little moment, immortalizing it right there on his phone.

Teresa was so caught off guard she barely had time to react by the time she registered what had happened, Troy had already finished and slipped his phone away with a satisfied grin.

When Teresa looked back at him, she saw Troy grinning at her his smile soft, even spoiling, with a glint of mischief and hope in his eyes, as if he wished this moment could last a little longer.

Before Teresa could even get a word in, Troy leaned closer with a playful smirk. “Tell me, didn’t that just feel like we were posing for wedding photos?”
