Chapter 21
After a long silence, Genevieve felt much more at ease and gave Derrick her first genuine smile in days.
“Alright, once I’ve finished everything I have planned, then I’ll try what you suggested and give you a chance to pursue me. But I can’t promise that we’ll end up together.”
Derrick nodded with a gentle smile. “I’m just glad you’ve come around.”
“If you need me to cooperate with your act in the coming days, I’ll do it.”
After they had sorted everything out, Genevieve finally left, satisfied.
Seeing her come out of Derrick’s room, Nathaniel’s eyes darkened.
As she returned to her room, he followed closely behind, entered, grabbed her hands, and pinned her against the wall.
“Genny, what did you talk about with Derrick?” He stared into her eyes, full of jealousy, not wanting to miss a single subtle reaction.
Genevieve frowned and twisted her wrist, even gently kicking his calf with her foot.
“Nathaniel, you’re hurting me!”
Only when he let go did she rub her wrist and speak slowly, “We didn’t talk about much, just discussed when to donate my kidney to you, and whether he needed anything now that he’s joined the family.”
“I’ve told you, there’s nothing between me and him. Don’t worry so much. You know you’re the one I love most!”
Is that really true?
Nathaniel felt a bitterness in his heart, his eyes lowered, lips pressed tightly together.
It was as if a gaping wound had opened in his heart, letting in a constant chill.
His vision gradually grew misty.

Scenes of him deceiving her against his conscience in their previous life resurfaced in his mind.
Only now did he belatedly realize how clumsy his lies had been back then, just like Genevieve’s now.
Clearly, she felt something different for Derrick, yet she chose to lie, using the same words he had once used in his past life.
The sting in his heart felt like a mocking reminder of his own mistakes.
If he hadn’t developed feelings for Elaine in his previous life, would things have turned out differently?
For a moment, Nathaniel couldn’t even understand the meaning of being reborn.
Was it to atone for what he had done in his past life, and that’s why everything was happening now?
If that was the case, then he would accept it all.
Nathaniel didn’t expose Genevieve’s lie, just as she hadn’t exposed his before.
He simply stared at her, pressing further:
“Genny, I know you love me most. We promised to stay together forever and never be apart. We’ll make it, right?”
At these words, Genevieve fell silent.
After a long moment, she finally nodded slowly.
“Yes, we will. We’ll never be apart for the rest of our lives.”
She answered evasively, and Nathaniel didn’t notice anything amiss for the moment.
The next day, Genevieve took Nathaniel and Derrick to a restaurant for a meal.
“Today is Derrick’s second day in New York. It’s worth celebrating. Thank you, Derrick, for coming and giving Nate a chance to live again.”
At Genevieve’s words, Nathaniel and Derrick both raised their glasses in a toast.
“Yes, it’s worth celebrating.”
