Who is Your Choice (Genevieve and Nathaniel) novel Chapter 24

Chapter 24

She should have been happy to see Nathaniel finally get his comeuppance, but why did she feel no joy at all, only an overwhelming exhaustion?

That was what Genevieve thought, and what she asked herself.

Derrick gently pulled her into his arms, soothingly running his fingers through her hair.

“Genny, taking revenge on someone isn’t always a joyful thing. That’s perfectly normal. Of course, it’s also because you’re so kind–hearted that you think about it so much.”

“I just hope that by taking revenge on Nathaniel, the pain in your heart will lessen a little. Only then does it have meaning. Otherwise, if you keep entangling yourself with Nathaniel, it means nothing at all.”

Genevieve clutched Derrick’s shirt hem, lost in thought for a long time before she gradually came to understand something.

“Derrick, I’m so tired. I want to give up on taking revenge against Nathaniel. I just want to have nothing to do with him from now on.”

“If I use these means to take revenge on him now, then how am I any different from the person he once was, the one who hurt me? Seeing his pain reminds me of my own suffering. I don’t want to torment another version of myself. It’s time for this farce to end.”

Derrick could more or less guess what had happened between her and Nathaniel, but he didn’t ask further, choosing instead to remain politely silent.

He knew that what Genevieve needed most at this moment was not meaningless agreement, but someone to truly listen to her and give her support and strength.

Neither of them knew how long they held each other, as time quietly slipped by.

At last, when Genevieve had completely calmed down and understood everything, a relaxed smile appeared on her face.

“Derrick, thank you for always being by my side and helping me. I’m ready to take the final step.”

With those words, she let go of Derrick and left the hospital room.

For several days in a row, Genevieve did not go to see Nathaniel.

In his eyes, she must have been spending all her time with Derrick.

His physical condition grew worse and worse, and his spirits declined day by day.

Sometimes, in a daze, he would recall everything from his previous life, murmuring apologies over and over.
