So far, I was having one of the best nights of the yearor at least, I was trying to make sure it was one of my best nights.

The girls and I had shared a few drinks, danced hard on the crowded floor and now, I leaned against the cool marble counter of the bar, trying to catch my breath.

One shot, please,I said, glancing up at the bartender. He had been smiling at me every chance he got.

In less than a minute, he slid the glass toward me with a playful wink. On the house.

I tossed back the shot, the liquid burning my throat like fire, and grimaced before chuckling softly. That was what you said for the last one. I’m afraid if you keep up with this, you might lose your job.” I slid the empty glass to him.

Don’t worry, pretty. You’re worth losing my job over.” He took the empty glass with a smile and left, going to attend to another customer.

I smiled, shaking her head.

Over my shoulder, I spotted Veronica and Ruby still on the floor. Veronica, wearing a slinky red dress that clung to her curves, had been grinding on the same guy for nearly an hour. No doubt she’d be spending the night with him.

I let out a throaty laugh and rolled my eyes. They were both far drunker than I was, their inhibitions completely drowned in tequila and vodka. For me, though, I’d been careful not to take too many shots. I wanted to be sober enough to make a good decision when I finally picked the man I’d sleep with tonight.

My gaze roamed over the bar, scanning the crowd. The room was filled with handsome men. I didn’t miss the them were ogling me, their eyes lingering longer than necessary on the slit of my emeraldgreen dress or the curve of my legs.

It wouldn’t be long before one of them approached.

I was definitely going to make a pick and get laid tonight, but it still saddened me to know that my fantasyfirst time sex was going down the drain. After waiting for twentythree years, I was going to lose my virginity to a total stranger in a one night stand.

Well, at least, it was better than losing it to a psychopath.

As much as I’d been trying not to think of him, I couldn’t help but wonder if he was here somehow, watching me. Was he aware I’d gone to the police yesterday? Was that the reason he’d gone silent and stopped texting?

I wished that was enough to stop him. I’d definitely be the happiest if he could stay quiet forever.

My phone buzzed in my mini bag hung over my shoulder. My heart rate spiked.

It’s probably Misa or one of your colleagues checking on youI told myself. But it did nothing to stop my hands from trembling as I retrieved the phone from my bag.

My heart jumped into my throat seeing that it was a text from him. Oh, God.

Was it possible he was stalking my thoughts as well? How could he text me now of all times?

UNKNOWN: Have the police been any help yet, Green?

Chapter 10

I bit my inner cheeks so hard, I thought I tasted blood. Goodness! He knew I went to the police!? Who the fuck was this guy?

I looked around the bar again with more fear this time. What if he was here, watching me?

Then, that’d make it fun. I’d love to see him stop me from getting laid by someone else. I already planned to alert the police if I caught even the faintest trace of him.

I texted back.

ME: Looks like you’re eager to get caught and jailed. Why don’t you make it easy for everyone? Show your face and get locked up.

UNKNOWN: I’d do that, if you’re willing to stay locked with me.

My fingers hovered over my keyboard, not knowing what to type back. I felt so much rage, I wished I could hit this son of a bitch, whoever he was.

Excuse me,

Ms. The sudden deep voice pulled me out of my thoughts.

I glanced up from my phone to see a broadshouldered man dressed in a sleek black suit standing beside me. He had the posture of someone used to tackling dangerprobably a bodyguard.

Sorry for bothering you, but my boss would like a moment of your time. His tone was polite but firm.

I arched an eyebrow, slipping my phone into my bag. My gaze followed the subtle nod of his head to see who this mysterious bosswas.

Of course. Adam Slander. He was one of the men that had been staring nonstop at me.

He sat in the VIP section, surrounded by three women. But since I walked in, he hadn’t paid any attention to them and even seemed irritated when they tried to touch him.

Adam wasn’t just anyone. His father held a strong political position, and as a result, he was always guarded. I’ll admithe was one of the few people I had my eyes on since I walked into the bar.

He wasn’t exactly attractivenot conventionally, at least. His sharp, rigid features gave him a cold, unapproachable air. Yet, there was something magnetic about him, always pulling the ladies in. Perhaps, it had to do with his father’s money..

For me, though, it wasn’t his power or his looks that made him appealing tonight. It was his security detail. The men stationed around him at all times meant one thing: safety. My stalker wouldn’t dare approach me if I was with Adam Slander. He’d be walking into a lion’s den.

I met the bodyguard’s gaze again, offering a faint smile. I’m sorry, but if your boss wants to speak to me, he’ll have to come here himself.

Then, I looked away, fiddling with my bag.

To his credit, the guard didn’t argue and simply walked away.

I pulled out my phone. No new text from him.

I exhaled a shaky breath. In a minute, Adam Slander was beside me, taking the empty seat next to mine.

He wore a tailored navy blazer over a crisp white shirt, the top buttons undone, giving him a roguish charm. His dark trousers fit snugly, hinting at a lean, athletic build.

Hey, gorgeous.

I turned to him, offering a soft smile. As our eyes met, I saw the unmistakable flash of lust in his.

say, you’ve got some nerves making me come here to talk to you myself.” He swept his gaze over my face and down the length of my hair. But now that I’m so close to you, I could say it was worth the trip.

I chuckled, lowering my gaze. I hope you don’t mind. I’d just hate to be regarded as one of those girls,I inclined my head toward the women he’d abandoned in his seat, who were all glaring at me now.

He glanced over his shoulder at them and laughed. Wellwhat kind of a lady would you want to be regarded as?

Don’t really know. Why don’t you tell me?

His eyes beamed. It was clear I’d made things easy for him.

Our conversations flowed effortlessly after that, and fifteen minutes later, we arrived at a crazy point that included me following him to his car.

It was relatively easy to have sex with a guy who already wanted

you.

Before heading out, I quickly informed Ruby and Veronica of my plans. Ruby raised a brow but nodded approveably. Veronica, still tipsy and clinging to the guy she’d been dancing with all night, gave me a sloppy thumbsup. Both seemed relieved knowing it was Adam Slander. They were certain I’d be safe with him.

Adam didn’t really have an appeasing character. I’d heard stories of him beating up people, abusing his father’s power. He also used and dumped women like they were dirt.

But none of it mattered. I wasn’t going to have a relationship with him even if he was the last man on earth. I just needed someone to get rid of my hymen tonight, and Adam was my best option.

My phone buzzed in my bag, the vibration making my heart thrum along with it.

I swallowed hard, ignoring the device as I settled into the backseat of Adam’s sleek car.

A bodyguard sat stiffly in the passenger seat. Hopefully, Adam would have more guards at home. Everything would be fine.

Exhaling deeply, I reached for my phone.

UNKNOWN: Get out of the car, Rali.

He used my real nameI realized. Was it weird that I could hear how furious he was from the text?

I swallowed hard as I stared at the screen, my heart thudding erratically. I couldn’t muster a response, not immediately. The air in the car felt heavier.

Another buzz.

UNKNOWN: I’ll kill him. I’ll cut him open right in front of you. And then, I’ll hurt youreally bad, Rali.

A lump formed me in my throat, unshed tears stinging my eyes.

My fingers slightly shook as I typed a response.

ME: What do I have to do to get you to leave me alone?

I wanted to be strong, but I couldn’t stop my poor heart from being so scared. So terrified.

Chapter 10

Seconds crawled by, each one louder than the hum of the engine. Adam’s car was already weaving through the streets, headlights glinting off rainslick asphalt.

UNKNOWN: Get out of the car.

He completely ignored my question.

I pressed my lips into a thin, trembling line, fury bubbling beneath my fear.

Adam was well protected. Nothing could go wrong. The psycho was definitely going to be so pissed that for the first time, one of my men will be untouchable.

ME: Come make me.

Defiance surged through me as I silenced the phone, shoving it back into my bag and shutting the stalker out.
