My face paled. If I’d been drinking, I would’ve choked or sprayed the table in disbelief. I gawked at her, barely keeping my jaw from hitting the floor.

She blinked innocently. “What? Void fights against the men of The Underworld, and judging from what you’ve said about your stalker, I have a feeling he might be one.”

“I uh… Don’t you think she might be right on this one?” Kuby rubbed the back of her

nape.

“Seriously? Don’t be ridiculous.” I rolled my eyes so hard I practically saw the back of my skull.

So much for finding a solution. Now we were diving headfirst into delusion.

“Come on, Rali-”

“What? How does anyone think this Void guy is some kind of Savior? What makes him any better when he only kills people?”

“He kills bad men to keep them away! Do you realize how much worse the country would be if the men of the Underworld operated as much as they did back then?” Veronica defended.

“So, we justifying murder now. Is that it?”

Ruby opened her mouth but said nothing. Instead, she just looked down at her half–eaten grilled salmon.

“This guy tortures people to death!” My voice rose a notch. “The stories I’ve heard about him… I’d never do anything to willingly stand in front of that man.”

I really couldn’t understand why some people thought this Void guy was up to any good. To me, if the killing wasn’t done by the authorities, there was no justification for it.

“You really should give this a thought, honey,” Veronica pressed. “I know Void is a bad man. But he kills men like this for sport, and I have a feeling he’d reward you if you bring this prey to him.” Her lips curled around her straw as she sipped.

Void had a website called the ‘Black Net‘ where classified information was posted. If I agreed to the girls‘ suggestions, we could easily upload the information on the website and one of his people would reach out to him.

According to what they said, Void could find anyone he wanted with the snap of a finger. I couldn’t understand how anyone could be so intelligent and skilled, actually. And the scarier part? No one had ever successfully hacked his site. Not even close.

I used to wonder why his enemies didn’t just bait him with false intel; set a trap and end him. Then, I got to know that this Void guy didn’t fall for traps. He verified every shred of information like a human lie detector.

He was always–always–one step ahead of his enemies.

Only his name was known, but it was as if he had people everywhere.

He was terrifying. A very dangerous man. And anyone who walked into his web willingly? They had to be out of their minds.

“I’ll just wait on Meredith and her team,” I shook my head. There was no way in hell I’d willingly put myself in Void’s path. Not for anything.

“So, what are you going to do about the deadline, huh?” Veronica asked after a moment. “You have five days left. Are you

really going to sit back and wait for him to come.. you know? Take what he wants?”

“That’ll never happen.” And I meant it. If I had to find a madman on the street and get him to sleep with me,

“What if…” Veronica dabbed the corner of her mouth where a sauce stained. “What if we use this opportunity to get him? Maybe Meredith could put a tracker on you or something. We’d all be on watch, and when he shows up on that night, we’ll grab him. What do you think?”

Hope rose in my chest. I’d actually been thinking of that myself, but the idea of being close to the monster for even a moment had been delaying me from saying it.

Meredith had actually assigned someone to keep an eye on me in case the stalker showed up again. Even right now, as we ate in the restaurant, the cop undercover was somewhere in hiding, keeping watch. Hopefully, the psycho would be unaware of this and fall into our trap. Then, there won’t be any need for me to dread the deadline.

I looked at Veronica. “I’m ready to do anything to see that he gets caught.”

The apartment felt quieter than usual.

Veronica wasn’t around. She’d be spending the/night neck–deep in documents, going toe–to–toe with her tyrant of a boss over a critical case. But Ruby had agreed to keep me company for the night. She said she was on her way.

And thank God for that, because as brave as I wanted to be, I couldn’t deny feeling a little bit of fear as I stood in the middle of the living room, my bag in hand.

The door is locked, I reminded myself. There was no way he could bypass a biometric lock. Besides, the cop was just outside, in hiding. He’d call for backup if the stalker did show up.

I took a long shower, my mind running through the options of what I could have for dinner. Maybe I could reheat one of the foods in the fridge, courtesy of Veronica. Honestly, if she weren’t my roommate, I’d probably live on cereal and cup noodles. I hated cooking.

Fresh from the shower, my towel tightly bundled around me, I found myself frozen. That eerie chill was back; the whoosh in the air that didn’t belong.

It was that same feeling I got whenever I suspected he was around. I was a fool for ignoring my instincts all these while.

My heart galloped like a wild horse against the ribcage prison that held it. Fear climbed into my throat, claws and all, threatening to choke the air right out of me.

He couldn’t possibly break in. The door was…

I gasped when I found a small purple box on my bed, sitting like a present. It was the size of a jewelry box with a green. ribbon crowning it with a perfectly tied bow.

It’d have been cute if I wasn’t so sure it wasn’t supposed to be there. It hadn’t been there before I went into the shower.

He’s here!

“Hey, Green.”

“You don’t get to cover what’s mine, Rali.” There was a raw, unholy possession in his voice that made my blood freeze.

A tear slid down my cheek as I resisted the urge to cover my breasts again. My eyes darted to the window. Meredith and her team should be here any minute, right?

Oh, God. Or what if Ruby made it first? What if the monster kills her?

I watched the movement of his eyes, watched as they devoured my bare form. He stared at me like I was the last piece of dessert at a lavish dinner, both tempting and off–limits. Like he could already taste me. I wanted to rip that look right out of his skull.

He muttered something under his breath and reached for my breast.

Reflex took over. I jerked sideways, covering myself again in a panic. But I wasn’t fast enough as his fingers caught one nipple between them and pinched hard.

Pain shot through me like lightning, earning a strangled noise from me.

What the actual hell!?

My hands flew to his, trying to push it off but it was like pushing at a rock.

“Get your hands off me,” I seethed, even as I was forced to stay still to avoid hurting my nipple any further.

Satisfied I was still, he released the nipple, moved his hand down the curves of my waist until he got to my thigh

I shivered from his touch, my brain clawing for escape routes. Was there a way out of this?

Maybe if I could reach my dresser…

“Fifteenth is quite far, Rali,” his eyes never l gt my body. “Having to watch you everyday and not being able to touch you, to fuck you… It’s pure torture.”

Fresh fear flashed across my face. No. He wasn’t going to try to touch me now, was he?

I followed my instincts and tried to back away, but before I could take a step, he seized my waist and shoved me against the

wall.

My back hitting the wall left stars blinking behind my eyelids. Yet, it wasn’t the pain that sent my pulse galloping; it was the fear of being caged by him.

“We had an agreement!” I shouted in his face, my breaths coming out fractured like I’d been running through fire.
