There were days I wished I had mystical powers. Not to heal. Not to protect. But to resurrect the dead.

And not because I missed anyone, no. I wanted to drag certain motherfuckers back to life just so I could kill them myself and make sure they truly understood the monster they tried to escape.

My thoughts were chaotic as I took in the sight before me. Three bodies, all laid horizontally beside me, their faces pale already..

Eric and Miles were flanking me, having been the ones that brought the bodies over. I couldn’t go to the house myself since the location was blown and the enemies could just be around, waiting for me to show up.

The bodies before me were men from our failed mission. Men that didn’t think twice before ending their lives just to fucking escape me.

The plan I’d come up with five days ago was a successor would’ve been a success if these assholes weren’t dead in front of

  1. me.

A relative of one of the deceased had been moved to a private apartment after the video was made. Just like I expected, they came for her. But not the big dog. Whoever this puppet master was, he knew better than to show up himself. So, he sent his

messengers.

My team had them surrounded, and when the fight broke out, those bastards didn’t try to win. They tried to blow everything to hell.

Only two were left breathing when the dust settled. But unknown to my men, they had death pills in their mouths and shoved it down their throat before my men could even fully get their hands on them.

They swallowed death like it was a damn breath mint, all to avoid falling into my hands. They’d rather rot six feet under than be left alone in a room with me.

Fucking cowards.

They did this to protect their boss,Eric muttered, stating the fucking obvious.

I rose slowly, my glare glued to the bodies.

This was supposed to be clean. Tidy like a murder in a dream.

They should’ve been thoroughly searched the moment they were caught.I was tryingtruly fucking tryingnot to let the lava inside me split my skin open.

Fuck, I hated it when things went wrong with my plans.

They did for weapons,” Miles adjusted his lean against the wall, folding one leg behind him. They just didn’t figure the bastards would come with poison tucked between their molars.

Of course they didn’t. Who the fuck was so important they were willing to risk their lives for him?

I muttered a curse so low it scraped my throat raw, pulled out my cigar and lit it. The first drag settled something ugly in my chest.

In the past, the little shit would’ve been enough to still the voices in my head. But nothing seemed to work these days.

Shutting my eyes, I clung to the only sedative that still worked: green eyes, blushed lips, curves that made madness look holy.

I dragged from my cigar, slower this time, holding the smoke in my lungs like it could silence the war in my chest. When I exhaled, it was through my nose, like a dragon too tired to burn, yet too angry to sleep.

That would dofor now.

Turning back to the pile of meat behind me, I contemplated what next deserved to die.

Yesterday, two more bodies had turned up. Their organs were gone like someone was collecting them to build their own Frankenstein. I’d driven my fist into the nearest wall when the pictures reached my desk.

These bastards were bleeding on my territory, spilling lives that belonged to me.

Whoever their boss was, he was hellbent on avoiding me. He even had his men ready to sacrifice themselves for it.

It made me want to tear down the whole goddamn world, brick by brick, until I found him.

And oh, I was definitely going to find him. His death would be the most agonizing I’d ever allowed anyone.

Boss. There’s something you should see.

Smoke leaked from my lips as I turned to see the oliveskinned lady approaching with a laptop in hand.

Katya

Combat pants, black tee, steelcapped boots. Hair pulled into a high ponytail that stopped just at her nape. Eyes the color of bitter coffee.

No matter the time of the day, Katya always looked like a weapon ready to strike. I never imagined I’d allow a woman into my inner circle. I had plenty of women on the outer ranks; the ones who only took orders from me without directly meeting me.

For my inner circle, I thought I only needed men by my side. But Katya? She was a man trapped in a woman’s body. She was as bloodthirsty as I was and enjoyed the sound of violence.

Taking another drag, I looked at the screen. Eric and Miles drew in beside me.

Someone emailed us through the private link. Said it’s urgent. Her Russian accent was smooth but clipped, like she was trying not to taste the words.

On the screen was an email from an anonymous name. We had one backdoor into our operationan encrypted link buried deep in the Black Net. It was our ghost mailbox where anyone could contact us if they had information they didn’t want the rest of the people on the Black Net to see.

The email read:

I know you’re onto someone and desperately want to find him. He keeps slipping through your fingers because he’s very smart. To take him down, you’ll need helphelp I’m willing to offer. I’m requesting a meeting, Torturer.’

That’s got trapwritten all over it in blood,Miles huffed.

Or maybe it’s someone itching to slit their boss’s throat and dump the body in our lap,Eric countered.

For a guy this careful?Miles cocked a brow. I’d bet my life savings his security team is stitched tighter than a coffin seam.

I inhaled, deep and slow, eyes fluttering short for a brief second.

God, I needed to be inside Rali. Only her could make this noise stop.

Get more details,my voice was graveldrenched steel as I turned on my heel while they followed. Know why she’s willing to helpand what her requirements might be.

On it.Katya was already typing with the speed of a loaded gun.

Katya kept the thread alive, trading backtoback encrypted messages with the ghost on the other end.

It turned out the sender’s life was under a threat and the only way to stay safe was to ensure this fucker stayed dead.

From their emails, they seemed desperate enough to want to help. It could be a trap. It might not. But I wasn’t a man who let chances pass. I grabbed them by the throat and squeezed

So, after thinking it through, I told Katya to set up the meeting.
