“Ms. Martin, was that a Rolls-Royce that dropped you off this morning? Not just any Rolls, either—it looked like one of those insanely rare, limited editions. I heard even the bulletproof stuff was custom-made overseas.”
Patricia had barely walked into the office when one of the younger guys, who was obviously a huge car fan, hurried over to her, eyes practically sparkling.
“That car was unreal. We’re talking high performance, worth millions. There can’t be more than a couple like that in all of Riverdale.”
She glanced at him, catching how his excitement was already turning heads around the office. “Is that so? Honestly, I don’t really know much about cars.”
“Ms. Martin, you’re seriously living the dream,” he said, practically sighing. It made sense—she was a shareholder, after all.
A few years ago, when Ms. Ruby Martin first started here, she drove a plain old Audi. She only switched to a Porsche after she’d made her mark, and even then, it was just a regular model. Nothing flashy.
But Patricia? She was on another level from day one. There really is a big difference between having a rich dad and having your own money.
Patricia headed into her office, her bag slung over her arm. Aurora slipped in right behind her and quietly closed the door. “Mr. Martin, how did you know that meeting was going to get canceled?”
Patricia pulled out her chair. As her fingers brushed the underside, she felt a tiny bug. Without changing her expression, she reached down and casually yanked out the wire.
“Just a guess,” she said.
Aurora stared at her like she’d just pulled off a magic trick. “You’re something else, you know that?”
Patricia just smiled. “So, did you end up landing that project you mentioned last time?”
Aurora looked at her, half in disbelief. “Wait, who’s the boss here, you or me? Feels like we’ve swapped roles.”
“Usually it’s the boss who goes after the big deals. Now you want me to go out and hustle?”
