You Looked Down on Me Once, Now You Look Up. novel Chapter 160

“Really?”

Patricia nodded, calm as ever. “Of course.”

There was just something about her—this quiet confidence, a strength that seemed effortless. When she spoke, you believed her. Arguing felt pointless.

Aurora hesitated, twisting her fingers together. “So… what do you want me to do?”

“Be smart. Listen. I don’t keep fools around.”

With Patricia, being clueless was just as bad as being malicious.

Aurora tried to read her, searching Patricia’s face for any hint of what she was really thinking. But Patricia just smiled, that cool, easy smile that gave nothing away. It was like she was silently reminding Aurora exactly who was in charge here.

“Patricia—”

Before Aurora could say more, the office door flew open with a bang.

Ruby stood in the doorway, looking furious.

Patricia shot Aurora a look. Aurora got the message and slipped out, pausing to straighten the chair at Patricia’s desk before closing the door behind her.

“Did you need something?”

Patricia’s question was so casual that Ruby faltered for a second.

What could she even say? She was pretty sure Patricia had orchestrated whatever had happened earlier, but she couldn’t just call her out in front of everyone. And if she did, she’d basically be admitting the rumors were true.

“You’re late.”

Patricia just shrugged. “You’re making such a scene. People who know me will think I just overslept. Anyone else might think I’ve done something criminal.”

She leaned back, completely unbothered. “I woke up late and got stuck in traffic. Does that satisfy you, Ms. Ruby Martin?”

Ruby wanted desperately to put Patricia in her place, but Patricia’s nonchalance made it impossible.

The door opened again. Aurora came back in with a cup of tea and set it in front of Ruby. “Ms. Ruby Martin, here’s your tea.”

On her way out, Aurora left the door wide open, making sure everyone outside could hear every word.
