You Looked Down on Me Once, Now You Look Up. novel Chapter 170

Just as Patricia shifted, a strong arm slid around her waist, pulling her straight into a warm embrace.

Oliver’s fingers brushed against the bare skin at her chest and his whole body stiffened. His hand slid down her waist and landed on her bare thigh, completely exposed.

“What are you wearing?”

“Mm?” Patricia mumbled, still half-asleep.

“Pattie!” Oliver yanked the covers back. The moment he saw the tiny piece of fabric she had on, his breath caught.

Patricia woke up to his kiss. She blinked as she came to, her breath stalling for a second, only to find his handsome face and sharp jawline right in front of her in the dim light.

“I’m tired,” she muttered.

“You can sleep later.” His voice was low, almost coaxing.

Her throat was scratchy as she tried to bargain with him. “Can we do this tomorrow?”

“Pattie, you’re making this feel really unfair.” Oliver’s fingers traced along her earlobe, then down to her lips, tapping gently. There was a hint of frustration in his voice. “You spend almost your whole day on other people. The time you leave for me is barely anything.”

Her sleepy brain felt like it had just been hit with a brick.

“Sorry, I—”

“That’s it? Just sorry?” In the dark, his gaze found hers and didn’t let her look away.

They stared each other down in silence.

Finally, Patricia’s pale arms reached up and hooked around his neck.

...

They lost themselves in each other, again and again, until it was almost two thirty in the morning.

After changing the sheets, Oliver scooped Patricia up and brought her back to bed. She lay there on her stomach, barely catching her breath.

Oliver traced lazy circles on her back with his fingertips.

“Is that a new nightgown?”

She almost never wore anything but long pajama pants. After hurting her leg, she was always worried about getting cold, so her pajamas were all pants or long nightgowns. He’d never seen her in something this short.

Patricia was too embarrassed to admit Sara had given it to her—especially since she’d already managed to tear it. At this point, it didn’t matter who it was from.

“Yeah,” she mumbled.
