“Then you go,” Patricia shot back, not falling into Sara’s trap.
Sara immediately wilted at the thought. “No way! I don’t care, you have to toughen up and make us women look good!” She was about two seconds from throwing a full-on fit.
“You need to stand your ground. Don’t let my Uncle Oliver call all the shots. You should be the one in control, not him!”
“Aunt Patricia, don’t you think dealing with a cunning, serious guy like him is just like peeling an onion? The more layers you pull back, the more interesting it gets. He’s not what he seems on the surface, and just imagine having him totally at your mercy. Isn’t that kind of thrilling?”
“You’ve got to have him wrapped around your finger!” Sara said, waving her fist for emphasis.
Patricia just stared. “You think I can actually do that?”
“You can, you definitely can. In fact, you have to,” Sara insisted, ready to shake her if she could.
“I really can’t!” Patricia said, sounding very sure of herself.
She never believed she had any special power over Oliver.
“You have to! Take some tips from those flirty girls out there—seduce him, tease him, make my uncle fall head over heels for you!”
Patricia clutched her pajamas, trying to sneak past Sara to the bathroom.
But Sara snatched the pajamas right out of her hands and held them up, making a face. “You were going to wear this? Even my mom wouldn’t wear pajamas like this.”
“Don’t you have anything with spaghetti straps? Something a little sexier?”
Sara pushed past her, searching through Patricia’s closet, but after digging for ages, she couldn’t find a single thing that would do Patricia’s figure justice.
She gave Patricia an exasperated look. “You may be married to my uncle, but you’re only in your twenties, remember?”
“These pajamas are not what a woman in her twenties should be wearing. Wait here—I have a bunch of new stuff I’ve never even worn. I’ll get you something.”
“Tonight, you have to make my Uncle Oliver regret staying in his study so late.”
“Seriously, make him wish he’d never left his wife waiting alone.”
