You Looked Down on Me Once, Now You Look Up. novel Chapter 206

Kelly lived in the same gated community as one of the women from her circle. They happened to be heading home at the same time, so she caught a ride with her.

As the woman swung open the door of her Ferrari, a small card slipped out and landed on the ground. She bent down, picked it up, and barely glanced at it before making a face. The image on the card was explicit, and she tossed it aside in disgust.

“Seriously? Even high-end malls have these sleazy cards lying around. Don’t they have any security?” she complained, clearly annoyed.

Kelly was about to walk around to the passenger side, but her eyes caught the card on the ground and she froze, tension flooding her body.

“Mrs. Phipps, is everything okay?” the woman asked.

Kelly snapped back to attention, forcing her nerves down. She unclenched her fist, trying to sound casual. “I’m fine. Just wondering how people like that even get into these places.”

The other woman just shook her head. “Who knows. Some people are just shameless.”

On the ride home, Kelly barely spoke a word, her thoughts spinning. As soon as she got home, she quickly changed clothes and rushed straight back to the mall.

She parked her car and crouched down, scanning the ground around the parking spot until she finally found the yellow card, half-crushed beneath a tire. When she picked it up, her hands were slick with sweat.

Even though the photo on the card was pixelated, Kelly knew exactly what it was. She’d seen the original. The woman in the picture was her.

She gripped the card so tightly her knuckles turned white, her whole body shaking.

“That psycho,” she muttered under her breath.

For days after that, every time Kelly left her house, those cards would show up again and again. They’d end up in the hands of people around her, passed out like cheap flyers. No one was spared. It was relentless.

Kelly barely slept, barely ate. The anxiety stuck to her like a second skin.

A few nights later, Theo and Howard were hosting a dinner for the CEO of a major company who was visiting Riverdale with his family. As the local hosts, the Newton family pulled out all the stops. Kelly was there too.

The evening was lively—music, laughter, everyone in a good mood. But as they were leaving, just as the guests climbed into their van, the CEO’s daughter caught her foot on something and knocked it off the step.

A small yellow card fluttered to the ground.
