"Check the security footage. See for yourself if I was dragged into that room or not."
"Mr. Miller," the detective said, his expression stony. "We found your DNA inside the victim."
Joseph fell silent.
He couldn't wrap his head around it. There was no way, not after how much he'd had to drink—he could barely stand, let alone... do anything else.
"Mr. Miller, the issue is, she's insisting it was rape."
Whether he could or couldn't perform after drinking didn't matter anymore. The only thing that mattered was she was sure he'd assaulted her.
"I want to see the surveillance footage. And I want to talk to my lawyer."
The detective just gestured toward the phone.
Joseph grabbed his and called home.
Nina happened to be there when Joseph called.
After Joseph explained, Ben's frown didn't let up for a second. "I'll get the lawyers over to you. Don't say anything to anyone until they arrive."
"What's going on?" Zoey asked, noticing how tense Ben looked.
"Joseph's been accused of rape," Ben said.
Zoey's eyes widened. "Wasn't he out drinking with Theo last night? How is this even possible?"
Ben glanced at Nina, and even though he didn't say a word, there was something in his look—accusing and annoyed—that made her feel uneasy.
"I'm going to figure out what happened," Ben said.
He skipped breakfast, grabbed his coat, and walked out the door.
Nina drove straight to Newton Enterprises, heading for Theo's office. He wasn't in yet.
She waited half an hour before Theo finally showed up, looking like he'd barely slept off his hangover.
"Weren't you drinking with my brother last night?" Nina asked as soon as he walked in.
Theo blinked, confused by her urgency. "Yeah, what about it?"
