You Looked Down on Me Once, Now You Look Up. novel Chapter 217

For two days straight, Joseph’s name sat at the top of the trending searches.

No matter how much money the Miller family poured in, they just couldn’t scrub the headlines clean.

Everyone in the family was stressed out and frantic, their nerves shot. Even their hotel business was starting to take a hit.

Ben was a mess, pacing back and forth like a caged animal, desperate for a way out.

By Sunday night, Oliver finally came back to Riverdale.

Patricia drove to the airport to pick him up.

Right as she walked in, she spotted Nina waiting for someone too.

Their eyes met for a split second—both of them surprised, clearly not expecting to bump into each other here.

Patricia, ever the calm and collected one, walked over first and greeted her. “Ms. Miller. Small world.”

Nina forced a polite smile. “It really is, Ms. Martin. Here to pick someone up?”

Patricia nodded, her tone cool as always. “Yeah.” She paused, then added, “I’ve seen the news lately—it’s everywhere. You doing alright?”

Nina couldn’t help but roll her eyes internally. She seriously doubted Patricia cared about her at all. With all their history, it was hard to say if that question was concern or just a jab. After all, Nina was the one who stole her husband.

“Thanks for asking, Ms. Martin. We’ll get through it.”

Patricia just nodded, turning her gaze to the arrivals screen. “Good to hear.”

Nina never knew what Patricia was really thinking. Back when she first got involved with Theo, Patricia barely reacted. It was almost like she didn’t care who her husband was with. And now, Nina felt even more lost.

“Sometimes I wonder,” Nina said, her voice low, “besides the family feud, is there anything you actually care about?”

“Oh, plenty,” Patricia replied with a straight face. “Like right now, I’m wondering what my cat is up to at home.”

“For me, the people who matter are always on my mind. The ones who don’t? Not worth it.”

She glanced down at her own hand. That morning, she’d pulled some weeds in the garden and hadn’t gotten around to using hand cream—a little hangnail had formed.

She picked at it absentmindedly. “You, on the other hand, Ms. Miller, care about everything. But in the end, you end up seeing nothing.”
