You Looked Down on Me Once, Now You Look Up. novel Chapter 576

Tina froze when Patricia appeared out of nowhere.

For a split second, panic flashed across Tina’s face. She pointed at Patricia, her voice shaky and uncertain. “You… what are you…”

Patricia raised an eyebrow, her tone cool and unbothered. “What about me? Or maybe, Ms. Klotz, would you rather I wasn’t here at all?”

Just a moment ago, Tina was so confident that Patricia wouldn’t show. Now, the fear and shock in her eyes made it obvious to everyone in the room what was really happening.

Patricia pulled out a chair and sat down, her gaze calm but edged with a hint of sarcasm.

“So, Ms. Klotz?” she prompted, her voice light but pointed. “You were in such a hurry to get started when I wasn’t around. Now that I’m here, what’s the rush?”

Curtis glanced between the two of them, sensing the tension. “Let’s just get the meeting started.”

The board meeting was chaired by Emerson’s old secretary, who was clearly loyal to Emerson—and by extension, to Tina.

“I’ll give a quick update on where things stand,” the secretary began. “Since Mr. Martin was taken in by the police last night, the company wants to limit the damage. So today, the board is appointing Ms. Tina Klotz as acting CEO, replacing Mr. Martin for now.”

“Board members, please raise your hand to vote.”

Tina looked around the table at the familiar faces. Other than Patricia, everyone else had been with her and Emerson for years, building the company together. She felt sure this was all but settled.

But minutes ticked by in silence. Not a single hand went up.

Even Ann, who’d been reassuring Tina over drinks the night before, was hesitating. Tina shot her a razor-sharp look, and only then did Ann seem to snap out of it, slowly raising her hand.

Tina finally let herself breathe, turning her attention to Mitch.

That’s when Patricia started tapping her long fingers on the table, the sound echoing through the room. She leaned back, a lazy smile on her face. “Looks like Ann’s the only one backing Ms. Klotz.”
