Chapter 20
A single sentence made the man, who had been so arrogant and causing trouble, change his expression instantly. He hurriedly bent over and approached obsequiously.
“Mr. Tuckett, when did you get here? My mother ran into a bit of trouble, and the person responsible is still stubborn- ly refusing to pay compensation. I just wanted to teach them a little lesson. You are…”
His gaze darted back and forth between Elijah and Nathaly.
He couldn’t believe that Nathaly could be connected to Elijah, yet he also tried to force himself to accept it-what if Nathaly really did have a relationship with Elijah?
Seeing the man’s ever-changing, colorful expressions, Nathaly felt nothing but extreme disgust.
She had witnessed this kind of scene countless times in the past.
And this time, Elijah’s reaction was exactly as she had expected.
“She’s my wife. Do you still want to make an issue out of this?”
Elijah stepped in front of Nathaly, his protective stance unmistakable.
Sure enough, as soon as the man heard this, he didn’t dare argue any further. He hurriedly dismissed the bodyguards who had come to bully Nathaly and then eagerly followed the nurse to pay the fees.
After Elijah finished all this, he looked at Nathaly with anticipation in his eyes. He was hoping for praise.
Nathaly let out a cold laugh and ignored him.
At that moment, Eleanor and Quinten, having received the news, rushed over with the police in tow.
The moment she saw Nathaly, Eleanor grabbed her and checked her over from head to toe.
Quinten, on the other hand, strode forward aggressively to confront the troublemaking man.
“I just took the police to check the community surveillance. Your mother-in-law fell by herself! How dare you slander her! Now that the police are here, you owe her an apology!”
Elijah was stunned. In an instant, he realized what was happening and looked sharply at Nathaly, his face turning deathly pale.
He stammered in explanation, “That’s not what I meant.”
Nathaly sneered coldly.
“But deep down, you always thought I was capable of something like this, didn’t you? Someone like me, a burger girl

who didn’t even finish high school, would do something so dirty, right?”
Nathaly was mocking herself, but every word, every sentence, was like a sharp blade tearing Elijah’s heart apart.
That night, the new tenants who had just moved in left in a hurry.
And just a few days later, the troublemaking man was arrested by the police for bribery.
After that, Nathaly received apology letters and gifts from Elijah every day.
She threw them all away.
When Elijah saw that his methods weren’t working, he started waiting outside Nathaly’s house all the time. He was no longer accompanied by his usual bodyguards or assistants.
He was alone, wearing the custom suit Nathaly had once bought for him, dark circles under his eyes, his expression full of guilt.
Nathaly couldn’t be bothered to pay him any attention.
She was completely unmoved by his attempts at self-sacrificing apologies.
One morning a week later, Lina dragged Nathaly out to buy the hazelnut chocolate she had been craving.
To celebrate Maori New Year, Nathaly had prepared all the ingredients days in advance. She and Eleanor spent the entire afternoon busy cooking.
At some point, fine snowflakes began to fall outside the window.
It wasn’t until Lina screamed and rushed outside to play in the snow that Nathaly noticed.
Elijah had been standing outside the door for a long time, his hair dusted with a layer of pale white.
“Nathy…” he murmured softly
Nathaly’s expression was calm. “Mr. Tuckett, please go back. I am not the person you are calling by that name, nor am I the one you are looking for. Your wife Nathaly died half a year ago, right there in that sea, right before your eyes. Have you forgotten?”
Nathaly’s words were almost cruel.
Elijah’s eyes instantly reddened. He trembled as he reached out to touch Nathaly’s hair, but, afraid of angering her, he could only freeze in place, anxious and uneasy.

“I was wrong, Nathy. Everything in the past fault. I didn’t know that because of my stupidity, your mother… It was all my fault, Nathy. You can hit me, scold me, punish me however you want, but please don’t leave me… I’m begging you… I can’t take it…”
Tears streamed down Elijah’s face. His tall figure was hunched over in front of Nathaly, filled with regret and guilt, desperately seeking her forgiveness.
But Nathaly was not moved in the slightest.

All the love, forgiveness, and tolerance she had for the man before her had been completely exhausted on the night her mother died.
She reached out to catch a snowflake, watching as it melted in the warmth of her palm.
“Elijah, I don’t hate you,” she said calmly.
“Because to me now, you are just a stranger. So could you please stop appearing in my life and stop disturbing me?”
Hearing this, Elijah’s eyes widened in shock, his face shattered and anxious.
