A Vow of Deception, A Vow of Revenge novel Chapter 219

At Winona’s playful words, she ruffled his hair the way you’d pet a little kid, her eyes sparkling with laughter. “That’s right. Don’t you like it?”

Elvis let out a helpless smile. “Of course I do.”

How could he not like it, when she was the one coaxing him? If she wanted to treat him like a kid, so be it.

After breakfast, Elvis asked, “Milo called me last night to invite us over today. You were already asleep, so I didn’t answer him. Do you want to go?”

“Sure,” Winona replied. “I really do like their estate.”

Elvis fell silent for a moment, considering. “I could just buy his estate for you.”

Winona nearly choked. “Hey, don’t do that.” She hurried to explain, “Yes, I like it, but there’s really no need to buy someone else’s home. Besides, we won’t be here often, so it would just sit empty. It’s unnecessary.”

It wasn’t that she minded the money, but she remembered chatting with Mrs. Milo and could tell how deeply the couple loved their estate.

Hearing this, Elvis dropped the idea.

It’s fine, he thought. If she wants one, I’ll just build her one when we get back home.

“I’ll run upstairs and change, then we can get going?”

“Okay.”

Winona headed upstairs to the walk-in closet. She’d just finished getting dressed when her phone rang—it was one of the Thorne family’s bodyguards.

A while back, Sue had said she wanted to return home, but when it came time to book a flight, she suddenly panicked about facing her family again. She didn’t know how to explain the kind of man she’d married. She’d told Winona she needed a few more days to think.
