“At that time, I never truly thanked you. If I hadn’t run into you… I wouldn’t have survived,” my mother said sincerely.
Tanner waved his hand with a light smile and said it was a doctor’s duty.
“Take a look at this.” He held up her medical report, concern clouding his expression.
The report showed that her condition was serious and had worsened her chronic illness. My mother froze, staring at the paper. She had always believed herself healthy. But now, having crossed forty, she finally realized her body was no longer what it used to be.
“Some time ago, I reached out to my medical team,” Tanner said seriously. “They found a surgical method that can slow the progression of your condition. Once your injuries heal, we can go abroad for the procedure. I’ll be with you the entire time.”
My mother lowered her head shyly. She had never liked troubling others, always managing things on her own since her student days. But she had always known Tanner’s feelings for her weren’t ordinary. She understood it clearly.
My fingers twitched, and I slowly opened my eyes. Catching sight of me from the corner of her eye, my mother was so overwhelmed she nearly rushed forward to hug me.
‘Daughter, you’re finally awake.” But Tanner gently pressed her back, reminding her to stay in bec and rest properly.
Kevin and Ava soon arrived, explaining everything that had happened. I felt deeply grateful to
:hem.
‘That shameless pair, Dixie and Cooper, will stay quiet for a while now. Sister, rest well,” Ava sai sincerely as she comforted me, cursing Cooper without holding back for throwing away his wife
or a mistress.
When Kevin glanced at my medical report, he stiffened, then quietly signaled Ava to stop speaking.
Not understanding, Ava leaned in to glance at the report, and her eyes widened.
calmly rested my hand on my swollen belly. “The baby is still inside me,” I said coldly.
‘If you still want to be with Cooper, I can find a way to settle the divorce agreement,” Kevin saic as he handed me the report.
Ava and my mother exclaimed in unison, “No way! Cooper is a bastard!”
After a long silence, I finally spoke, each word slow and steady. “This child shouldn’t be kept. Let’s just part ways. Cooper was involved in that car accident. I have no reason to forgive him.”
gnoring Tanner’s attempt to stop her, my mother leaned closer, confusion written all over her face. “You mean that night… the car accident… it was Cooper?”
That night, the driver had escaped early, but before I passed out, I caught a glimpse of the keychain in his hand, the same one I once gave Cooper.
Cooper and I had met through racing. Later, to show my gratitude, I gave him many gifts, the most precious of which was a handmade keychain, a safety pendant I crafted myself, meant to bring peace and protection.
“Yes,” I said, shaking my head helplessly as tears rolled down, soaking into the white sheets. “I never thought he would do it himself.”
“Setting that fire was too kind,” Ava growled. “Just because he once saved you doesn’t give him the right to hurt you now.”
Kevin’s eyes
flickered. He looked like he wanted to speak but held back. When I said I wanted to terminate the pregnancy, Ava immediately agreed and said she would stay by my side.
“We’ve already caused you too much trouble. Once we’re feeling a little better, we plan to transfer to a different hospital. After that, we’ll handle everything ourselves.”
My mother and I had already talked it over. As we looked around the luxurious furnishings of the VIP ward and thought about how both Kevin and Tanner had cared for us, we truly didn’t want to trouble them any further.
‘No way!” Kevin and Tanner said in unison, their voices louder than before.
The room instantly fell into silence until Ava gently spoke to break the tension. “Since Sabrina and Auntie have already made their decision, let’s wait until you’re both feeling a bit stronger before we talk about the next steps.”
said I wanted to have the surgery to remove the baby in a few days.
‘I’ll go with you,” Kevin said firmly.
Since I couldn’t find a reason to turn him down, I agreed.
