The last time Cooper had been summoned to the company by a phone call, Kevin had already begun making quiet moves behind the scenes.
“President Timberlake, shouldn’t you run this by the higher-ups first?” the assistant urged
cautiously.
“I’ve been gone all these years, and he’s done countless dirty things. If I don’t deal with him now then when?” Kevin replied calmly while tending to me at the hospital after my accident. Kevin was simultaneously orchestrating a ruthless business war.
As president of the Armitage Group, Cooper had grown lax in his management. He didn’t even realize that the one striking at him was the Timberlake Group.
Only when Armitage Group’s stock continued to plummet did he finally sense that something was off.
He rushed to convene an emergency board meeting to discuss countermeasures. But just as things reached a boiling point, Dixie made it worse, strutting into the company, eager to show off, desperate for everyone to acknowledge her presence.
The employees were left bewildered. While Cooper sat in the conference room with shareholders discussing strategies, a few sharp-eyed staff finally recognized the true hand behind the attacks, which was the Timberlake Group.
‘The Timberlake Group started overseas and only opened a domestic branch in the past two years. Their rise was no joke. I heard someone named Kevin was behind their local operations.”
‘Business doesn’t always have to mean hostility. Why not arrange a meeting with President Timberlake? Maybe you can turn conflict into cooperation.”
‘Yeah, this feels off. The Timberlake Group isn’t just competing, they’re going all in, like they’re eady to devour us whole.”
The conference room buzzed with tension. When Kevin’s name was mentioned, Cooper fell into silence. A cold chill crept down his spine. Kevin had been biding his time all along.
After much discussion, Cooper ultimately decided to reach out and talk to Kevin. But as he stared at the plunging stock charts and ruthless strategies, he began thinking of another way.
He wanted to find me. He hoped I could help persuade Kevin to pull his investment. That way, he
could avoid a confrontation.
Cooper had finally realized that he didn’t have the resources to go head-to-head with the Timberlake Group.
It was then that he discovered I had blocked all of his contact information. His heart skipped a beat; he had never imagined I would go that far.
His gaze turned blank. Through the glass wall, he caught sight of Dixie swaggering outside the conference room, and a wave of revulsion surged through him. His brows furrowed deeply.
“I’m Cooper’s fiancée. From now on, whenever you see me, you’d better show the utmost respect,” Dixie declared proudly.
Unable to endure a second more, Cooper stormed out of the meeting and dragged her aside.
“Cooper, is everything settled? Didn’t you say we’d have another wedding ceremony? Let’s go pick out a wedding dress!” Dixie said excitedly.
Already on edge, Cooper turned her down without hesitation. Just then, a call from his mother flashed on his screen, and her panicked screams echoed through the line.
“Cooper, hurry home! There’s a dead fetus at the door. What’s going on?! The box even has Sabrina’s name on it…” Elsie cried, her voice trembling, trying to hold her nose.
She had just opened the box and found the horrific “surprise” inside. Suspicion surged in Cooper’s mind. Ending the call, he rushed home without a second thought.
When their eyes met, Cooper’s widened in disbelief. The moment he saw my name on the box, his mind spun, and Kevin’s words suddenly echoed in his ears.
He steadied himself, forcing calm, while Dixie, clearly shaken by the scene, tried to move closer. But he shoved her aside without a glance.
“This was Sabrina’s child.”
‘It should’ve been mine too,” Cooper said coldly, his gaze piercing straight through Dixie.
A cold sweat broke across Dixie’s back. She instinctively placed a hand over her belly, trying tc stay composed.
‘Cooper, what nonsense are you saying? This is your real child! That whore Sabrina lost her bastard and dumped it here just to scare people-how vile!”
Still filled with doubt, Cooper retrieved the old medical report that falsely claimed I was infertile and left, carrying the box straight to the hospital.
Just as he feared, the child was truly his.
Elsie froze, her eyes wide in horror. The grandson who should’ve been born alive and healthy was now a lifeless shell. She collapsed to the floor, sobbing uncontrollably, curling into herself. Holding the falsified report in hand, Cooper asked coldly, “What do you have to say for yourself?”
