I had to shut off the bond from Lewana completely. If I felt her feel a shred of fear or anxiety in our mate bond, Jace was coming out at full power and killing Donovan. I don’t care if the rational thing to do is to get information; he’s still a threat.
I’m working in one of the rooms that has a view of the medical centre, so I can at least keep a visual check on the medical centre and see when she leaves.
While she is talking to Donovan, I call the other members of the guardians. The Faes can travel through their own realm, and Phoenix’s can fly in. That just leaves the Sirens. Due to the importance of the attack, the Faes have permitted them to travel through the Fae realm for their safety. They all agree to be here tomorrow with their military, so we can plan for the night after.
I watch out the window and see Arthur sounding an airhorn. The first practice on evacuating to the pack house. It’s something we probably should have done a while ago. The current plan has also been to run to their homes while we defend the compound, but after the last attack. We can risk that again.
Halfway through the drill, I see my girl getting lost in the crowd. She has thrown the empty bowl on the floor and is running to the pack house with everyone else. Something must have happened.
I try to reach out, but she has her block still up.
I mind–link Liam. “Liam, what happened? Why is she upset and running?”
“Exactly the reason you think. The delusional psychopath tried to wingman Malik by telling her that Malik enjoyed raping and torturing humans who resembled her. However, she shouldn’t worry because they are dead now, so she can still be his mate. Also, the shadows have a plan to kill you and take your moon essence so the world can go into darkness“.
What the actual FUCK.
I race out of the room to try and find her, but I can’t in the middle of the drill. There are too many wolves in the building.
I link Liam again. “Do you see her? I can’t get through this crowd“.
“I’m still outside. Wait. Holy shit, she’s climbing the outside of the building. It looks like she is trying to get to your room“.
‘Keep an eye on her. I’m heading upstairs“.
It takes me five minutes to get through the crowd and up to our bedroom door. I open the door and I can hear the shower running and see the steam coming out.
I go to the bathroom and see her with an exfoliating brush, scrubbing her arms raw. The water is so hot that her usual silk skin is bright red. Her breathing is ragged, and I can tell she is trying to hold in tears.
I open the door and step in fully clothed. I adjust the temperature so it is warm and wrap my arms around her.
Her voice cracks just slightly when she speaks. “My skin feels like it’s crawling“.
I run my hands firmly down her arms while kissing her neck.

Chapter 227
I’m here, Moonlight. Only I will ever touch you this way again. Take some deep breaths. Inhale my scent.
She takes one deep breath, and I can feel her start to relax slightly. She pauses and seems to be taking in more of her surroundings and grounding herself.

She turns herself around and starts to unbutton my shirt. I know she wants skin contact. She wraps her hand around my back and places her head on my chest, listening to my heart beat while taking her breaths.
I rub her back slowly, but I can tell this position is uncomfortable for her due to her bump. I turn her back around, but she starts to
protest.
“No. I want to nuzzle“.
I just laugh. “I know Moonlight. But Mary has me reading some baby books, and I want to try something“.
She grumpily turns, and I lower my hands until they are under her bump. I lift it up slightly, taking some of the weight, and her head falls back against my chest.
I smile at her reaction. “So you prefer this then?”
“Yes, I take everything back“.
We stand in the shower. The confined space enhances our scents as water washes over us. I hold her bump with one hand as I wash her body with the other.
We spend the rest of the night just us. Reminding each other why we are together. Nothing sexual. Just love and connection.
