Chapter 228
Lewana POV

I wake on the soft grass with the sun gently warming my skin. I can feel a warm body pressed against my back, holding me tight, as a protective arm is on my baby bump. I can feel his breath on my neck and just feel everything in this moment.
It takes less than five seconds for everything to be ruined when I realize what day it is. The first night of the new moon. I sit up frantically and stare at the sky, and she’s gone. The moon has left and is now replaced by the sun cresting over the horizon.
Suddenly, sitting up has woken up Conrad, and he starts to sit up grogily and realises what I’m thinking as I look up at the blue sky.
‘I know Moonlight. It’s going to be a rough three nights of darkness until she returns“.
We both stand and head straight to the kitchen to get something to eat. We know we have a busy day.
We quickly cat and head to our room to shower and get dressed. As we are putting on clothes, we get distracted by the sound of several helicopters landing.
I turn to Conrad. “Are we expecting anyone?“.
I can see Conrad mindlinking Liam, and he lets out a sigh. “Liam called Agent Carter to see if he could use the information Donovan gave you to get a location. He must have presumed we wanted the results in person“.
By the time we get to the pack house entrance, Agent Carter walks in with several of his men who are armed.
Conrad growls. “You need to leave. You were not invited this time“.
Agent Carter looks pissed. “Not this time. You’re going after Malik, aren’t you? We want in“.
Conrad just pinches the bridge of his nose. “You have no idea what you are walking into“.
Agent Carter snaps back. “None of us cares. He killed one of ours last time. We know how dangerous it is, and we are going to fight alongside, whether you want us to or not“.
I place a hand on Conrad’s arm and mind–link him so Agent Carter can’t hear. “Let him stay. Even if we put them in the pack house as the last defence. They need to know we can work with them and what really goes on in this world. If we do lose, the humans need to know what is coming, and they can get a warning out“.
Conrad just pulls me into his arms and holds me tight while staring at Agent Carter. “Fine. You and your men can stay. But everything that happens here stays at top–level clearance only. And you follow every order. No questions asked“.
All the soldiers instantly salute Conrad as the comit to his directions.
He shakes his head, and we head off in the direction of the largest conference room, setting it up as a war room. Not even thirty minutes have passed before we hear banging from outside. I know the noise.
We head out to the forest and see the Sirens and Faes coming out of the forest, banging their staffs on the ground. All their soldiers are walking in perfect formation, wearing copper alloy armour that has corroded to green. The Sirens, alongside them, in maneuverable skin- tight

material made from seaweed, covered in limpet tooth shells. The hardest shell of the ocean that rivals Kevlar.
Aalto is the first to see me and starts waving like the goofball he is.
He gleefully calls out. “Look at how big you are, little Orca. Just so you know, water births are all the rage now, and we can help.
Conrad sends a threatening aura straight at him before he can get another word out.
I just roll my eyes at them. I’m good, Aalto. And both of you, remember why we are all here‘.
I walk over to Rose and hug her. She places both hands on my belly as she senses the lives growing inside me.
“Both of these lives are growing very well. The light is strong in them both.
I just nod. “Thank you, Rose‘.
