Lewana POV

As soon as I leave the meeting, I head straight to the medical centre to get the vaccinations going. I work with Liam to go through the list of soldiers fighting and start calling them in groups. Not one of them argues.
Liam double–checks his list and then looks at me. “That’s all of them. Not bad for two hours‘ work“.
I smile. “Not quite. We still have three that weren’t on your list“.
Liam looks at his list frantically to see what he missed.
1 giggle. “You planning on sitting this fight out, Beta?“.
He scrunches his face up and mutters under his breath. “Damn it“.
He throws the clipboard down with force, sits in the seat, and rolls up his t–shirt. I give him a quick injection, and when I’m done, Arthur
walks in for his.
Arthur is so far off in thought that he doesn’t even register when the needle goes in. This has me worried.
“You alright, old man?“.
“Huh. He turns to see the look on my face, and it crumples slightly. “I’m just proud of Jellybean. You know that, right?“.
I smack him over the back of the head, cross my arms, and glare at him. No way is he saying goodbye to me.
He lets out a laugh. “I know, I know. Just want you to know“.
He stands up and kisses me on the head before walking out. It’s another five minutes before Conrad walks in.
He flashes me his cheeky grin. “You ready to stab me, Moonlight?”
I roll my eyes and get the vaccine ready.
As soon as I have removed the needle from his arm and placed it in the tray, he pulls me close. His head is resting on my chest, listening to my heart beat while he rubs my belly.
“I need you all safe through this“.
I knew this conversation was coming. “You know I’m not sitting out this fight as I am the only one who can fight the shadows“.
He looks up at me with pleading eyes. “I know that. Doesn’t mean I have to like it. Promise me all three of you will make it through this“.
I hold his face in my hand. “I promise to always come back to you“.
I just nod and pull myself close again.

Chapter 230
:
77
It’s only two hours until nightfall now. We both quickly eat something and get into our battle gear. All the weapons that Agent Carter arrived with a little while ago are being given out. Murdock has hung around for the battle and is the only one not feeling the stress. He is strolling and whistling with a grin on his face. Almost as if preparing for a romantic date or something.
As soon as the sun dips below the horizon and the sky is painted red and orange, we all just watch as the sky changes to black and the
stars come out.
With the pack safe in the pack house and only warriors out on the grounds, everyone is tense. Every move, every rustling of trees, makes us pause and brace for an attack.
This goes on for hours, but nothing happens. We knew they would likely attack tomorrow night, but we also needed to be prepared.
A collective sigh is released when we see the sun start to rise in the east. We will live to fight another day.
Every warrior heads to get something to eat and then heads to bed. Not sure how many will sleep, but they must try.
Conrad and I call the guardian council before sorting things out at the pack house. I’m going to stay up and keep watch while Conrad sleeps. I’m way too wired.
Conrad addresses everyone in a calm and warm manner. “How is everyone holding up? Think the warriors can get some sleep before tonight?“.
Aalto is the first to speak. “Mine are all good. They are all taking a large dose of magnesium to help them sleep“.
Rose is next to talk. “The Faes have taken some Belladonna“.
Eli is last. “Mine are all good. A bit of brimstone and they will be fine“.
Conrad turns to me. “Anything we can give our warriors“.
I think for a moment. “We have that mild tranquilliser we could use“.
He frowns. “Is that safe for you and the pups?”
I smile. “It would be, but I’m not going to take it. I’m used to being up for a day, so I don’t need rest. I will keep an eye on the pack while you rest“.
I kiss his cheek, and he smiles at me. But Aalto is frowning.
“You need to sleep, Orca. You’re the one we need the most“.
I snap at him. “Aalto, this isn’t my first battle. I know what I can handle“.
