Rowan had asked us to accompany Arden and Tessa to go dress fitting because he couldn’t see Tessa in the dress before their wedding.
I thought it would just be me.
Cade was already leaning lazily against one of the mannequins when I entered the boutique, his reflection clear in the mirror. Elias sat comfortably by the display table, munching on some pastries.
“I wouldn’t have come here if I knew you two were going to be here,” I muttered under my breath, crossing my arms.
“Oh, come on,” Elias said, brushing crumbs off his shirt. “We all need a breather once in a while.”
I gave him a pointed look. “From what?”
“Life,” he said simply.
Cade chuckled quietly beside him. “How’s the rehab at Montrose?” he asked, not looking up from his phone.
Elias‘ expression darkened slightly. “Stressful,” he said. “The rot runs deeper than I thought. Years of corruption don’t heal overnight.”
I hummed in acknowledgment, though my thoughts were elsewhere.
“Where’s Arden?” I asked after a moment, realizing she wasn’t here.
Cade looked up. “I don’t know.”
“You’re not overprotective of her anymore?” Elias asked in a teasing tone.
Cade only shrugged. “She can do what she wants. It’s daytime. She’s strong. I know she’ll come back.”
I raised a brow. “You sound unusually relaxed.”
He smirked faintly. “Trust is part of love, isn’t it?”

Elias groaned dramatically. “Ugh. Spare me.”
I shook my head slightly, but my gaze drifted toward the door anyway.

Something about the silence that followed made Cade glance at me. “What about Luna?” he asked suddenly.
My jaw tightened. “Luna?” Elias repeated, his brows furrowing.
I sighed, running my fingers through my hair. “We’re just waiting for the full moon.”
“I’m not talking about that,” Cade said. “I meant the progress between you two.”
Elias looked between us, appearing lost. “Wait, who’s Luna?”
I ignored him.
“There’s nothing,” I said curtly. “There’s no progress. There will never be. She’ll give me an heir, and that’s that.”
Cade frowned. “That’s that?”
Elias squinted. “Hold on. Is she a new Luna or something?”
Neither of us answered him.
Cade, however, wasn’t letting go that easily. “You’re her mate,” he said. “You know what that means, Abel.”
I pinched the bridge of my nose. “Don’t start.”
“She’s human,” he continued. “And yet she—”
“I said don’t start,” I repeated. Cade fell quiet, though I could feel his eyes on me.
The truth was, I didn’t want to think about it. Mates weren’t for people like me. The last thing I needed was to drag someone like her into the mess that was my
life.
I pushed the thoughts away and exhaled slowly. “She’s fine with it,” I muttered.
Cade didn’t look convinced. “You’re sure about that?”
“She’s fine,” I repeated.
Elias, meanwhile, still hadn’t caught up. “Seriously, who’s Luna?” he demanded. “You keep

saying ‘she‘ like I should know who she is. Is she your mate, Abel?”
Just then, the door opened, and sunlight spilled into the boutique.
I turned instinctively.

Arden stepped inside, her hair catching the light as she held the door open for someone behind her. She looked far too pleased with herself. “Sorry for the wait,” she said. “Traffic.”
I didn’t pay attention to her excuse, though.
The person stepping in after her already made my entire body go still.
Luna.
Her hair fell softly over her shoulders, her eyes widening when she saw us. The faintest smile tried to form on her lips before faltering.
“What are you doing here?”
The room went silent.
Arden raised a brow, appearing amused. Cade smirked from his spot by the mirror. “That’s Luna,” he said, gesturing toward her without looking away from me.

Elias would not shut up.
He had been pestering me since Luna walked in. “You didn’t even tell me you had a mate,” he complained. “And here I am, rotting in the single life all alone.”
“Seriously,” he continued, stuffing another pastry into his mouth. “You couldn’t even drop a hint?”
Still nothing from me.
I wasn’t ignoring him because of irritation. The truth was, I didn’t trust my mouth not to say something I’d regret. Every time I caught a glimpse of Luna from the corner of my eye, my chest did something I didn’t like.
“I told her not to open the door to anyone,” I muttered finally, under my breath. “She still did.”
Elias snorted. “Yeah, but it was Arden.”

That was why I couldn’t even scold her for it. Arden was unpredictable, but she wasn’t a threat. If she said she came to fetch Luna, I knew arguing would be pointless. Still, the image of Luna opening that door made something cold crawl down my spine. What if it hadn’t been Arden? What if-
I cut off that thought before it could grow.
Across the boutique, Arden and Cade were whispering something to Tessa, who was still behind the curtain.
The curtain moved, and Tessa finally emerged, her hands clutching the edges of a white gown.
“Finally,” Cade said, leaning forward with a grin. “Took you long enough.”
Tessa glared. “This dress has more buttons than an entire army uniform.”
We all laughed–except me, though the faintest twitch of my lips betrayed me. I couldn’t help it. She looked… happy. She looked like everything Rowan deserved after everything he had lost.
When she stepped into the light, the fabric caught the sun from the window. The ivory shimmered faintly with silver accents, the skirt flowing like water.
A small smile tugged at my lips despite myself. “Rowan’s going to lose his mind,” I muttered quietly. “He might even faint.”
“Beautiful!” Arden exclaimed. “Absolutely stunning!”
Tessa rolled her eyes but failed to hide her smile. Cade nodded in approval, and Elias let out an exaggerated whistle.
I glanced at Luna.
