The air inside the venue shimmered with golden light. The ceremony was being held in the South in an open yet private clearing surrounded by towering trees and wildflowers. Lanterns hung from branches like tiny stars, and the scent of flowers and grass mingled in the air. It was absolutely beautiful.
I stood beside Arden in the line of bridesmaids, the satin of my dress cool against my skin. My fingers kept fidgeting with the hem as I tried to steady my breathing. Around us, people murmured softly, waiting for the ceremony to begin. The sound of the string quartet drifted gently across the clearing.
Abel was standing next to me, among the groomsmen, still with his unreadable expression. However, even with this, he looked breathtaking.
I shouldn’t have stared as long as I did, but I couldn’t help it.
Just then, he looked at me.
For a heartbeat, we were locked there, caught in silence. Then, as though remembering himself, Abel looked away.
I exhaled softly, forcing my gaze down to the petals scattered at my feet. My curls brushed against my shoulder, and I found myself adjusting the bouquet in my hands just to keep from fidgeting more. My get–up was simple, but I couldn’t remember the last time I’d dressed up like this.
“You’re beautiful.”
My head turned, startled.
Abel.
He wasn’t looking at me anymore, but his voice was clear. Yet, it felt like he hadn’t meant for me to actually hear it.
A tiny, surprised laugh escaped my lips before I could stop it. “You look handsome,” I whispered back.
He didn’t answer, but I could’ve sworn his ears turned a shade of red. The sight made something inside me soften, something I hadn’t realized I’d been holding onto since that night he walked away.

We began to walk down the aisle, pairs of bridesmaids and groomsmen taking slow steps under the arch of flowers. Arden and Cade were just ahead of us, fingers brushing every now
and then.
As Abel and I took our first steps together, I could feel the warmth radiating from his arm beside mine. He didn’t offer his hand, and I didn’t reach for it, but our hands naturally found their way to each other.
Rowan stood at the altar, appearing restless. There was some sort of glow about him. Well, he was getting married to the love of his life. That was most probably the reason why he already had tears in his eyes, too.
Cade, standing near us, chuckled. “That bastard talked big and said he wouldn’t cry.”
Abel grunted, shaking his head slightly. “He’s been saying that for weeks.”
Their quiet banter made me smile, even as we kept walking. The faint tension that had clung to my chest since the drive began to ease.
Then, the music changed again.
A hush fell over the entire clearing.
Everyone turned to watch none other than Tessa.
The moment she appeared at the end of the aisle, the world seemed to still. Her veil framed her face, but even through the lace, her eyes shone with so much emotion that it took my breath away.
I’d seen her earlier while we were getting ready. But seeing her now… it was different. It was as if every piece of her had been carved out of love and light just for this moment.
My breath caught. “Wow,” I whispered under my
breath.
Even Abel glanced up and showed rare softness in his usually stoic face.
However, the one with the most priceless reaction was Rowan. He had been holding himself together all morning, but the second his eyes met Tessa’s, the dam broke.
Tears streamed down his face freely without restraint.
Cade made a quiet scoff beside me. “And there it is,” he said.

Abel’s lips twitched into the faintest smile. “Told you.”
I couldn’t take my eyes off Rowan.

He wasn’t crying out of sadness. Instead, it was out of love–the kind of love that endured every possible storm and finally found its harbor. His shoulders trembled as he tried to keep himself composed, but his eyes never left Tessa’s.
Meanwhile, Tessa was smiling like he was the only thing in the world that mattered. Everything faded until it was just them. Two souls who had walked through fire and somehow still found their way back to each other.
I swallowed, suddenly aware of the tightness in my chest again.
Was this what Arden meant? That love wasn’t perfect, but worth it anyway? That maybe, even when things felt broken or distant, there was still a chance?
My thoughts were interrupted when I heard a sniff from behind me.
